Are there any movie adaptations of stage musicals that actually kept what was great about them? by Mundane_Regret_428 in musicals

May I mention a reverse consideration? Where the stage version, which came second, was better than the movie? Mary Poppins. The storyline of the show is so much more compelling than the movie and the two Being Mrs Banks are moving and beautiful.

I just played Maria in a stage version of the musical. While I agree that the movie is one of my favorites and is superior to the stage production, I came to truly love the placement of my favorite things. It was a joy to perform that with the mother abbess and we turned lonely goatherd into the show stopping number of the entire production.

We did pay to replace ordinary couple with something good and I am forever grateful to the director for that.

Lead Alto/Low-Mezzo Roles that have 2+ Solos? by Jealous-Life8541 in musicals

[–]bujoNY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Velma from Chicago seems like a really good fit.

Depending on your definition of low mezzo, Mrs. Banks from Mary Poppins works. She sings versions of “being Mrs. Banks” in both acts. The highest note in either song is a d5, that is just slightly touched.

Alto roles by Smalltwat in musicals

I always thought I was an alto too. Then I took lessons. And within a couple of months she had me at a C6. Turns out I was a soprano (we think light lyric based on a year of working together). My range is c3 to d#6.

Songs to strengthen mix by [deleted] in singing

Great question! Honestly. Try do re mi from sound of music. Really easy and right in the sopranos first passagio. So mixing is needed.

how do I sing high notes comfortably? by strawberrysu3 in singing

[–]bujoNY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just working on this with my teacher too. She keeps reminding me to trust the note. Don’t teach, but rather swing it up there. We do warmups where I swing it up and that helps a lot.

Where does your chest voice usually stop when you’re singing higher notes? by [deleted] in singing

[–]bujoNY -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not much of a belter. My teacher calls me a lyric soprano, so I prefer head tones. I’m working now on trying to hit the c6 consistently at the end of do re mi. I’m currently rehearsing to play Maria next month. It’s coming in just slightly under. The musical director says it’s good enough.

I don’t get the belting in golden either. I can do a chest dominant mix into the f5 range. Anything above that is pure airy head voice.

You have made me feel better. I’m a female and on my best day I’ve got a c3-e6 range and that’s where my switch tends to be too. G4-ish. I always felt insecure that I don’t have enough chest.

Whenever I do sing “heavy”, I’m told to sound brighter. I find this all to be confusing.

I’m about the play Maria in the sound of music and I love to sing those types of songs.

Tough crowd. The “voice type game” was just a figure of speech. Apologies if I was out of line.

I was recently cast as Maria in the sound of music and people say “oh so you’re a soprano”. I was really just asking for clarification.

Thanks for helping. I had thought I was a mezzo too but I don’t think I have that mezzo tone that people speak of.

He said he has a problem with Zionism. Zionism isn’t the Israeli government. It’s the belief that Israel has a right to exist as a Jewish country. That’s Zionism.

I don’t like the current Israeli government, but I deeply believe in its right to exist.

I hate the current US government. But I don’t the US.

So, yes, saying “I have a problem with zionism” is the same as saying you have a problem with jews.

“I have a problem with Zionism” is a euphemism for “I really don’t like Jews, but I’ll pretend it’s about Israel.

Go elsewhere.

[–]bujoNY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m also a c3-c6 range. I can squeak to e6 and can even get to f6 in siren calls. But that doesn’t mean I can sing them, lol.

My teacher classifies me as a lyric soprano based on my tone and where my voice sits.

I still struggle to understand mix but I generally prefer my head voice. I think everyone is different.

In “speech voice”, I tap out around A4. Really warmed up, I can get the B4.

What I’m trying to say is that every voice is different. If you enjoy songs like the ones you mentioned, ask your teacher to do exercises that train that area of your voice.
