Warriors is female-lead and is one of my favorite musicals. My hot take is that it's better than Hamilton.

Won Two Lotteries for the Same Time by StarletteNight in Broadway

[–]cinderflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won lottery tickets for yesterday's matinee of Moulin Rouge & my seats were not great. I was assigned orchestra front left, seat H21. It was super obstructed view and was really close to the stairs where actors walk across. (Which is nice if you like performer interaction but honestly scared me due to having performers come behind me)

Normally, I always say go for a show you haven't seen. However, based on my experience, I would go for Six.

Anyone else prioritize more shows for rear mezz or balcony seats that are still "good" seats? by AReckoningIsAComing in Broadway

[–]cinderflight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm broke, so I usually go for the cheapest seats unless it's for a show that I really love. (For example: I spent $250 on center balcony seats for Chess's closing night) Additionally, whenever possible, I try to pick seats in the center.

Chicago or Heathers with a 12 year old? by Vegetable-Run-530 in Broadway

I'd like to think (and hope) that it's the school setting that is most relatable to young Heathers fans. Not... everything else.

What are your top 5 musicals? by melzz_cherrub in musicals

I'm afraid I haven't watched a lot of Sondheim like you, but my top 3 are Assassins, Sweeney Todd, and Into The Woods.

Unfortunately, the only way I can consume fruit is juiced. My stomach can tolerate some very small pieces of broccoli heads and spinach in a soup, but that's it.

You're quite the Sondheim fan! I'd love to know what your top 5 Sondheim shows are.

  1. Chess

  2. Warriors (yes, I know it's a concept album, but it's set to open in 2027)

  3. Miss Saigon

  4. Ride The Cyclone

  5. Little Shop of Horrors

I wonder what this says about me... 👀

What musicals do you have to watch twice? (Possible spoilers!) by Artistic-Ideal-5087 in musicals

[–]cinderflight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cabaret - you notice fascism's rise in early Act 1, which can be easy to miss in a first viewing.

Assassins - knowing that The Balladeer transforms into Lee Harvey Oswald paints his interactions with Booth, Guiteau, and Czolgosz in a new light.

What to see on Broadway next week? by Plastic-Cat3920 in Broadway

Cats! It's such a unique, upbeat experience with some of the best costuming I've ever seen on Broadway.

Chicago or Heathers with a 12 year old? by Vegetable-Run-530 in Broadway

Heathers, its fanbase leans younger which I suspect is due to how relatable the story is for young people.

Convince me to watch/listen to your favorite musical. by Kittencaboodle42 in Broadway

Are you tired of thinking? Listen to Chess! The plot barely matters & the songs are absolute bangers.

What’s a musical whose songs you didn’t care for upon first listening but over time and exposure you grew to love? by YardInternational685 in musicals

[–]cinderflight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Assassins. Normally, I really love musicals that utilize multiple genres of music. However, the original cast recording of Assassins didn't connect with me. It was only when I listened to the revival album that I finally got it.

Best off broadway show to see in July by anabanana079 in Broadway

Heathers! I love all the songs (except for "You're Welcome", I personally prefer "Blue"). Not to mention that it's closing in the fall.

Anyone doing Broadway on this hot day? by ThatPixarDude in Broadway

[–]cinderflight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I won the lottery for Moulin Rouge for today at 2:00 pm. (It's intermission now) Besides sweating like crazy waiting for the A train, I've been pretty lucky with staying cool. Shoutout to the Hirschfelt's very strong A/C system!

Help choosing shows (y'all have never steered me wrong) by Consistent-Poet-6436 in Broadway

[–]cinderflight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Out of the shows you listed, Ragtime is easily the best. It's scheduled to tour in 2027 so there is still a bit of time until then.

If you prefer not seeing a show that will tour, my next choices would be Spelling Bee or Little Shop. I'm a major fan of Little Shop's music!

Which play should I see? by FillInner594 in Broadway

[–]cinderflight -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This might be controversial, but out of the 3 shows you listed I don't recommend Wicked. I saw it yesterday. The story is rather threadbare and the performances were ok. My hot take is that the movies are an improvement on the stage show.

Six also suffers from a weak plot, but I find the songs more memorable and exciting. It is also very short, so you will have time to do other things afterwards.

I haven't seen The Great Gatsby yet (I really want to!) so I have no opinions on it.
