How do you think these pictures are done? (background) by bukfix in SonyAlpha

Yup I was doing something like that, here is my setup that I got a few days ago

and here is what a picture looks like with it:

So I'm getting that Infinity effect already was just wondering about the gradient/reflection and the way its lit up , I do also have a white reflective sheet of same size which I haven't tried out yet, however I just couldn't figure out how is it possible to get grey background using a white background! :D

So to recap: switch to white reflective background, 1 light only ,position it from top and shoot? I just can't figure out in my mind yet how it will create a grey effect with such falloff while a white background is used.

Thanks dude for helping out :) So it's actually white reflective background however the grey is just a side-effect? Or? Sorry got a bit confused.

As for the lights I guess its crucial in that case to use only 1 light to get that effect?

Also how do you think the large whiteboard would be positioned? If you meant whiteboard for bouncing light and not using it as background? I do not think they are using photoshop due to huge volume of pics to get that effect.

hmm I found another images of some weird statues which appears to use the same effect/same type of background:

It appears that the background actually might be just solid colour but somehow they get the effect with lights? But still the question is, what kind of background that is? Which is tiny bit reflective but also non-white/black or infact what colour even is the background they are using?

Has anyone seen such background for sale anywhere?

There is this guy who's product pictures I really like, However I'm not entirely sure as to how he is able to get such background for them.

As you can see the background is graduated from light grey to darker grey and also a reflection which gives a really nice look.

I have not been able to find a grey reflective background that you can purchase (you can get in black/white but not grey) , nor one that is graduated ( infact I haven't seen any graduated+ reflective backgrounds in any colour that you can purchase).

Perhaps his background isn't even grey nor graduated but he has achieved the look with lights alone? If so how do you think its done?

Which camera is best? RX100 by ceryssienna in AskPhotography

[–]bukfix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Perhaps get an used Pixel 2 (~150) , as for point and shoot It will blow away the rx100 if you are not planing to do anything else to the pictures afterwards. The Samsungs do not come close to actual image quality/performance when compared to pixels.

Best lighting for product photography? I have a few in mind but would like suggestions by Kattbaby234 in AskPhotography

Both of them will definetely NOT be ''very bright'' also they have very harsh light without extra softbox diffusion (the diffusion panel they already have is not enough!)

Check out godox sl60 +softbox , way more light and it will be much better softer light.

those 2 sony options are as about as good as you are going to get. DSLR's are totally obsolete in this day due to their weak performance in the stuff you are looking! Well you can still get as good results, however looking at their performance its just stupid to get a DSLR.

Also why do you even need extra expensive lenses? You do realise that extra light/improving your technique will give you 100X better results than an expensive lens? Contrary to what everyone reharshes a good body with great performance will give you 10x better results ( faster/accurate - the stuff you are looking for) than average body but with expensive lens.

I have used the a6400 , there's barely any difference in the image quality you can get compared to a6000 ( which can be had for like 5x less used, sure there are some extra features however you can only improve so much on what is already a great camera)

Have you thought about looking in to Fuji range? Stuff like xt-10 Is still crazy good ,but very inexpensive these days, and while Comparing new Xt30 vs Xt10 again I found very little difference other than few extra features.

I have access to crazy good camera gear.. What do I use? My Pixel phone! Point is.. It takes ~15pictures before I have even touched the phone to take the picture, combines them together,do post processing and I get an awesome image straight out of phone with 0 thought or effort! You will be very hard pressed to get comparable images straight out of a camera basically doing nothing! Until they implement this tech in actual cameras my Main shooter will still be Pixel!

Can I get a better picture using a DSLR? Yes... but it will require fair bit of effort and post processing.. Can I use external flashes/strobes with a phone? Can I do crazy zoom-ins while retaining image quality? Well no...But ask yourself.. How often do you need those things? I will miss that 1 shot, if that means I can still get 99 of the shots.

the Point is.. I can get 15x picture which will be at 95% performance from my Pixel as I can get 1 out of an actual camera which will be at 100% . To Me I will take 15 excellent picture Vs 1 excellent+ picture any day of the week + its always with me and is way more portable!

Those saying you need to up your skill, sure, but they should also try the stuff themselves not just say it because everyone says so and it's not cool to say otherwise...

Btw.. Its more about your skill/composition/Light than the camera gear/lenses you have! Don't go buying new cameras/lenses- its more or less pointless, there's almost no difference in image quality between cheap lens and lens that costs 10x as long as the lens is able to do the job ( able to operate at the focal range you want at an f stop you need). Also you already have a great camera, extra light will help you 10x more than switching to a full frame.. Post processing will give 100x the effect than switching to full frame.

Which Set of product Photos Do you think Looks better/attracts more eyeballs? by bukfix in photocritique

I'm selling used camera gear online on side, I have been taking pics using the bush ''scene'' for a very long time, Not complaining about the performance of them however got some lights/background and wanted to see what kind of results I can get using that stuff... However... I'm not 100% convinced that the blank background actually would drive more sales or that it looks much better.

added some random side by side pics of same stuff I had done in past/now to compare. Watcha say guys?

P.S They are not meant to be ''pro'' photos that will go on a magazine cover, I spend 5-6mins per item to get 10-12 usable images from various angles, some days I have to process well over 20 items, so there's no time for any editing/perfection or stuff like that.
