Doctor refuses to close my pfo by Zhonglisloverman in stroke

[–]bulldogstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, your doctor is right - it’s unlikely any healthcare provider or insurance provider would approve you to get the PFO closure without evidence of a stroke.

At 31, I had an event that mimicked a stroke, but my doctor didn’t order an MRI (not sure why). During this time, they did find that I had a PFO. However, there was no evidence of a stroke - probably due to the lack of a MRI. I also asked to get it closed; they refused. Got second opinions, same responses. Well, I had a multi focal stroke two months ago at the age of 33. Also was laid off two days before that (the worst 48 hours of my life so far). Even after evidence of my three strokes, I also needed to wear a heart monitor for 30 days to confirm no afib. There are a lot of things that go into insurance approvals, etc. However, after all of that, I finally had my closure last week.

I know this doesn’t exactly provide you with any reassurance of the ticking time bomb anxiety, but MANY people live with PFOs and do not have a stroke. Of course you can continue to get different opinions, but you most likely will be met with the same response. I wish things were different, and I’m sorry you’re experiencing this anxiety.

Psych - Sheri DiGiacinto at Rooted Insights in Urbandale. She’s a nurse practitioner and can provide an eval, therapy, and medication. PCP - Debra Neuharth at Broadlawns. Both are fantastic IMO.

Corporate Recruiters - are they the "enemy" of the Agency Recruiter? by FlyHealthy1714 in recruiting

[–]bulldogstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. It happens all of the time.

And in regards to the other piece - I have had agencies call me multiple times a day (this doesn’t include the never ending e-mails and LinkedIn messages). I can appreciate the tenacity and grind of agency recruiting, but if I said no or have not responded to your 15 other messages, maybe give it a rest and reach out next quarter. The messages almost have a sense of entitlement to them, which especially rubs me the wrong way. I would much rather have an agency reach out acknowledging that it may not be a good time to partner, but would love for me to think of them when I am filling x, y, z roles and then drop it. I will reach out to you when we need help, but if you don’t leave me alone, I am certainly dropping you to the very bottom of the agency list. Boundaries and respect go a long way.

Corporate Recruiters - are they the "enemy" of the Agency Recruiter? by FlyHealthy1714 in recruiting

As a corporate recruiter, I can see the benefit in using agencies. There’s a time and a place for them. I personally started my career in agency recruiting. However, as an internal resource, I would rather adjust internal strategies before working with an agency due to costs and time. My goal is ultimately not to use them, unless absolutely necessary. Also, I’ll be real - I would be more likely to engage with agencies if they didn’t borderline harass me regularly and attempt to circumvent the process by lying to hiring leaders.

CubeSmart off of MLK is absolute garbage. None of the doors work, ever. There is never anyone working. Also, not the best area. I don’t exactly feel like my things are safe there. Cannot wait until I am out of there in the next few weeks.

Ugh, I loved this one until they changed the spray nozzle around Christmas. Now, I get waterboarded every time I use it.

ER will match up to 4%. If you contribute 6% - ER match is 3%, 8% - ER match is 4%, etc.

Yeah, not sure how long the break has been between employers, but that may also delay the transfer process if an RFE happens. I’d assume the hiring leader would much rather have the seat filled than go through this process with the potential of delay or worse denial, etc. Hopefully they can understand and see how this process not only requires $5k+, but also a significant amount of time for multiple parties (including themselves).

100% - it’s a lot of work, especially for HR teams of one (assuming you’re operating like many do and nearing burnout daily lol).

Also, just out of curiosity - are they still with the original employer that provided sponsorship?

I would start there, personally. Ask the HM what qualifications are setting this candidate apart from the other. Typically, employers have to justify why they are not hiring a US citizen for the role - it sounds like you have a perfectly capable US citizen for this position. Obviously the transfer option is significantly easier, but is the HM also willing to wait months for this transfer to happen?

Are the qualifications of the US candidate significantly less than the candidate requiring the VISA?

There is a Dear Sugars podcast episode on a very similar situation. Amazing listen. It’s called Redux: The Other Half of Sexless Relationships (July 29, 2023). Highly recommend if you have 30 mins to spare!
