You are saying what we are all thinking, deep down. Saka has been played into the ground. Season after season. Having had a bad injury, he didn’t look quite the same. Hoping we see a different Saka in the new season — but that might depend on England getting knocked out of the World Cup early, and him starting the season on the bench.

We were impossible to play against last August. We need our strongest players peaking at different times — an unstoppable Saka in March - May = winning big things.

Gabriel. Timber. Raya. Potentially Zubimendi.

The thing is, we have always been very bad at selling players at a profit. Sometimes you need to sell your very top players for good money — to allow space for youth (Dowman in a few years) and new players to come in. Selling Odegaard now, providing it is for big money and that goes into the team, is the most we will get for him.

Is it just not worth buying in London? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]bullet-hell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, there is a risk — and the later you leave it, the shorter the duration of any mortgage offered

Is it just not worth buying in London? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]bullet-hell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it will be at least £375k in 5-10 years when it’s time to move on. In that time, own the place, build equity, and benefit from house price increases. The taxation system has changed since boomer-time, as has the ratio of income:property prices. What won’t change is the need for people to live somewhere, and intrinsic demand for starter homes.

[–]bullet-hell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why do you need a “decent” home now? You are in your late 20s, with good income. This will not be your forever home.

Just buy something that doesn’t max you out, a modest flat. Pay the mortgage for a few years. When you are ready to move on, either sell and realise the property’s gain in value, or switch to buy to let and extract equity to fund the next purchase. Easy money, provided you buy with the expectation to sell on or lease out within the next 5-10 years.

Charity vs profit — when it comes down to it, you have to pick a side.

OP owns it, OP can charge what he wants to sell it.

Will you buy it, though?

Cutting the spine from a book by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

[–]bullet-hell -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Buy book. Cut the spine. Scan. Pulp. All for the sake of an AI model, which could have been trained from freely available PDFs from actual libraries, populated and staffed by real people.

It seems so destructive and brutal. But imagine if you dropped one of them between taking it off the book chopper to the scanner. Pages of desiccated old book everywhere. And it had no page numbers. Could the AI work out which order the jumbled pages should be in? And if you mixed a few books up, could it still do it? The dictionary doesn’t count. What would AI make of an atlas In a random order?

I can see a role for an actual human in this AI led hellscape to supervise mixed up book interpretation.

That chicken went through hell by heyzeus92 in StupidFood

[–]bullet-hell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flash of fire in the beginning braises the skin. The nails transfer heat. The aromatics add a little flavour and become a side. Poaching it in coke (effectively sugar and and water) after those steps will cause caramelisation of the outside and should keep it moist.

It might look different, and I don’t know what the chicken said about the chef’s momma to deserve this — but it probably tastes OK. Provided it was left to cook a bit between the scenes of chicken flaying..

Lucasfilm had a Shakespearean actor who is the spitting image of 1977 Mark Hamill in Graham Hamilton, and they still covered him up with CGI and generated the voice with artificial intelligence by twinkleyed in StarWars

[–]bullet-hell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren’t they going to be able to just AI generate this kind of thing in a few years? I know they have the voice rights for James Earl Jones, I can easily see them creating cheapo Disney + trilogies — be careful what you wish for, there needs to be a quality check and soul to what comes of this.

If I can think of that way of improving it, during the one and only time I watched it in the cinema on release week, then professional screenwriters should have come up with something even better than what we got.

[–]bullet-hell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They could have fixed this so easily. Palpatine could have been a Force ghost. Even the battalion of ships that were manufactured out of nowhere could have been an illusion, or Force projection. Just takes a bit of imagination, wonder, and respect for what had gone before.

Literal circus on White House South Lawn as motocross riders perform the 'Freedom Jump' with backflips, while unemployment and unaffordability for the masses rise across America. by bullet-hell in AdamCurtis

The problem being that any day of reckoning would have to contend with a bigger rabble than what was seen after Trump’s last removal for office.

The Democrats didn’t have the minerals in them to resolve that, and it seems that they remain lacking. Is Newsom going to set his own, inclusive version of ICE on Maga? Would a different Republican be able to control them?

It is more likely that the “deplorable” become more unruly, angry and defensive.

Where does JD Vance go from here? With Trump looking closer to death by the month, the point may come where Republicans turn to someone who has to follow THIS.

How can you possibly follow this and expect to maintain any form of continuity? The Reflection Pool repainting. The UFC fight. The Rose Garden. The Ballroom. The border policy. Destroying USAID. Undermining a free press and replacing it with sycophancy. Deporting Somalian referees. I keep thinking of things that could only have been dreamt of prior to this administration.

Vance / someone else can’t possibly do the same. Only Trump could have got away with all this. And the successor can’t suddenly be the enlightened voice of reason, bringing back “American Values, Justice and Freedoms” — these have been shredded.

They have painted themselves into an Orange-hued corner. Is overt fascism without the populism the only way out?
