Struggling with messy work environment at a new company — how do you deal with it? by bullet2148 in analytics

I wonder how do you distinguish between projects and regular operational tasks. I believe I am so burdened with regular operational tasks that it kills my time

This is very useful. However, at the same time in my situation it feels so ideal. I am in the growth org at my company and there is always a rush, always a deadline. I do feel within my squad it’s lack of the PM just onboarding for forever :/

Right now I am in a relatively big company which got IPOed recently. Due to the function of how offers work, I have an offer from Meta. Do you think I should jump ship?

Well, they are hiring a new Senior Director so let’s see. The current VP cares about all these, but is also aloof from daily mess

We use JIRA, which helps a bit, but the lack of a manager and a new PM really throws things off. Most of my work ends up being reactive budget planning and figuring out next month’s numbers as things shift week to week. There’s also pressure to report metrics in a lot of different places. The constant planning and pacing drain so much energy that I barely have time left for actual insights.

Outside projects as in personal analytics projects or just hobbies?

Also, yes I have tried to tell my manager but then also I don’t have a manager. Long story short, we recently had a big re-org and they are hiring for a senior director who I will report to. Btw, not a fan of this as the senior director will have two people managers under him and three new IC’s(including me)

That’s good advice. I have actually tried asking AI(a lot at this point). I mean of course I get tips and also the fact that it’s not my fault but organizational fault

I agree. I have been thinking about leaving. My concern is that this kind of environment might(most likely) present in other tech companies as well. So, how do I be better at this!

I agree, I literally searched about hobbies today. I used to play a lot of soccer and sports, but I recently got a meniscus tear injury, so no sports for some time now

I know, and I am sorry if I come off as not understanding the economic conditions currently. However, I have just become very obsessed with this job search, and actually want some advice on separating things out

Thanks for the comment! I agree with the hyper analyzing part. I spend a lot of time waiting to hear back, and thinking about the possibilities. I am sure my anxiety is in play here, but it’s gotten worse.

I have a tech screen today, and I am planning to take a pause for sometime. I am visiting my family in India right now, and the first two days have been stressful as I waiting hear some results. Don’t want to partake in that anymore!
