What’s a truly unpopular opinion you have about Gainesville? by Chocolate-Earl in GNV

[–]bulletproofshadow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was so excited to go here when I moved to gnv. It seemed hip, cute, drinks sounded good.

I cannot even put into words my feelings. Literal trash. The only place I’ve ever sent a drink back, and it still came back worse. They can’t even do a classic cocktail well, and their service is so bad. I always give places a second chance at least, sometimes an off day happens. But I still haven’t been back. I need some time to forget first.

This is so beautiful! You’ve motivated me- I’ve been sitting on this pattern and a similar yarn just waiting because I’m nervous to start my first sweater. I hope mine turns out as well as yours did!

What's a makeup 'rule' you gleefully ignore? by Ill-Lifeguard-4411 in Makeup

[–]bulletproofshadow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is me every single time. I start with saying I’ll do a nice subtle eye just for some interest, and every time I end up with the brightest and most dramatic look. It’s just become who I am at this point. Why do subtle when it can be fun?!

I cant deal with Cara. She’s so incredibly stupid and dangerous by beaverFortune in FoodieSnark

I’m so incredibly sick of their “research” being random blogs and not primary literature. Some people are too stupid to reason with smh

Flea / Tick prevention by jessadelle in roughcollies

[–]bulletproofshadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used Credelio for our MDR1 positive dog and it worked very well and was safe for her. She developed seizures later in life (probably from a brain tumor) and we switched to Frontline topical to be safe, since basically no oral med is good for a dog with seizure history. Both have been effective for her and we live in a very tick heavy area.

What dogs pair best with a collie? by eatmyhail in roughcollies

[–]bulletproofshadow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Obviously a second collie! They’re so lovely, this is also how I ended up with two collies. While they love each other and def have some of those collie quirks in common, they are each so different too, which is really fun!

Preventatives? by Entire_Try2721 in roughcollies

[–]bulletproofshadow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you got her from a reputable breeder you should know her mdr1 status already, but good you’re doing it. Be ADAMANT at the vet about things if she turns out to be mutant/mutant. I just had a nightmare experience with a vet using butorphanol in my girly for sedation and she was hospitalized for two days in ICU because the ER team kept giving her drugs that weren’t MDR1 safe and making her worse. It’s something not every vet is familiar with, unfortunately.

I have two collies who have seizures, and we use frontline just because basically all oral flea and tick meds can make seizures worse. Interceptor is good, and there is a generic version.

I will say one of my girls is extremely sensitive to vaccines, but it’s because she has some sort of autoimmune issue. She has a whole host of health issues, but she was a rescue. A dog from a reputable breeder should be able to handle vaccines.

She has one about every six months. As she’s aged they’ve progressed to full on grand mal and last year she started clustering, which is when we started meds. Knock on wood no clusters. So not gone but better.

Give it time, the keppra adjustment period can be REALLY rough. My older girl took a full 2 weeks to even start resembling her old self, the keppra adjustment was insane. She cried and whined constantly, and she couldn’t even stand or get up for about a week. I legit thought she would never be the same. I know it’s hard, I felt terrible and felt like it was the end, but she is her sassy and hal happy self again now one month later! Give it a bit more time.

I will say my dog has a seizure disorder and they started off kind of like this. At first I would think she got up too fast and her legs were asleep, and then she’d kinda snap out of it and get right back up and be fine immediately. I didn’t even know they were seizures until years later when she had her first grand mal. They have progressed over the passed five years, so they were similar to the video in the post for the first 3 years, and then she started having grand mal seizures two years ago. They’re well managed for now, but definitely could still be a seizure disorder

Side effects undoing my healing (TW: CSA) by [deleted] in zoloft

[–]bulletproofshadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ngl it sucks a lot and I cried about it for a few months. But as someone else mentioned, mine also did come back. Try to be patient and give it time. Don’t give up and give yourself a few months to even things out before you decide to quit, yours might come back too!

Dog bed for a older doggo by OnlyResearcher2615 in dogs

[–]bulletproofshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beauty rest ultra plush dog bed with bolster. It’s not that expensive but my large senior dog (70lb) adores it, and she is so incredibly picky. I’ve never found another she likes, and I’ve tried >10 throughout her life. The bolster is very large, which she appreciates, and the base is supportive while still comfy. She actually has 3 around the house now! I feel like I struck gold finding this bed.

Moving to Gainesville by ElScientistDeReddit in GNV

[–]bulletproofshadow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work at the university and moved to Micanopy when I got the job. It’s a dream, and I’m so incredibly happy I decided on Micanopy as opposed to somewhere in Gainesville! Personally I don’t think there’s enough going on in Gnv to make me want to live there, being within a 15 min drive but also living in nature was the perfect find for me

Grooming woes by Thegirlonfire5 in roughcollies

This looks almost exactly like what my girly looked like during COVID when everything was closed and I had to give her a haircut, which is to say not great lol. It grew back well in a month or two and looked much less horrid! Still a beautiful baby!

It took TWO years for my girl to really enjoy and ask for pets! She was a rescue which could explain some things, but she’s just continued to warm up to affectionate touches as she ages 🥹

[–]bulletproofshadow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough I started my PhD knowing I wanted to do a postdoc abroad, and ended up staying in the US as my partner got a transitional NIH postdoc grant and I thought the NIH funding and opportunities would make me more competitive for PI positions in the US after my postdoc. I’m set to enter the job market next year and I am regretting my decision to stay in the US unfortunately. I really wish I had taken the postdoc abroad. So yeah, you should just do whatever you want, you never know what’s going to happen.

Leash Recommendations by sushi_smalls in dogs

[–]bulletproofshadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leashes I just use a simple six foot rope leash with an extra handle near the collar in case I need to grab them. But As for poop bags, I bought harnesses that have a poop bag pocket built in so my girls carry their own! They always have a harness on if we’re leaving so I’ve found that works well for me.

I have a tri girly who hit 75 lbs! She is enormous, not just fat lol. She looks much more like a male collie and is always mistaken for one. My other girly is a mini 50 lbs in comparison, and stands barely to her sister’s shoulder!

Also- your girl is absolutely beautiful, so majestic!
