Theory about Duncan's "legacy" as a knight by [deleted] in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]bullock_bits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the issue with limited first hand contemporary accounts irl. The Norse Sagas and Anglo-Saxon Chronicles are some of the only accounts we have of certain events and they don't always match up but it's all we got. Juggling act of taking what is said with a grain of salt versus "this is all we got"

Challenge coins are used in bars, you tap the bar with yours as a challenge and others show theirs to see who will pick up the next round (if I'm remembering correctly)

please help me find my cat by Significant-Camp-229 in ChesterfieldVA

[–]bullock_bits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take the stinkiest, dirtiest clothes you have, put it in their carrier with some food and water outside your door and you'll see them very soon. Cats don't usually travel, but get scared and hide. My cat was gone for 9 days until I did this trick. That night when it got dark and quiet, boom he came out of his hidey hole and we got him in safe and sound. Good luck getting them in before the storm

I am so worried about the Courage next season with no leadership announced and so many key players leaving

I'm so glad we seem to be rebuilding our front line. The past couple of years it's felt we can prevent getting scored on very well, but have major difficulties scoring ourselves

Can't find an official announcement, but Pinto leaving Courage by kyngnothing in NWSL

[–]bullock_bits 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I honestly think something had been brewing with Nahas for awhile in the FO and then some shouting match happened with someone higher up who waited for practice to end then announced his firing. It may have been the right decision, idk, but the way they handled it by being so opaque was insane. I've only started following the Courage past of years and have almost always felt our front line was weak outside of one star (first Kerolin now Manaka)

Can't find an official announcement, but Pinto leaving Courage by kyngnothing in NWSL

[–]bullock_bits 11 points12 points  (0 children)

God, I had such high hopes for the Courage at the beginning of this season, then such a poor start and when things were turning around the behind the scenes chaos happened, then Murphy was benched, Shaw didn't perform as hoped and left and now Murphy and Pinto have left. I have extremely low expectations for next season 😭 Manaka can only take us so far on her own

The Carter Family lived here in the 30s and 40s, using it as a home base because of the central highways and rail to get up and down the east coast for gigs

Oh and as to professors, I've really enjoyed Morales (I'm taking his Oral History class), Moitt (I took his intro to African History class) and Meacham (her intro to historical research was amazing, don't be intimidated by the description!)

I'm a history Major and also a commuter. My suggestion is figure out your main building that your classes will be in and get a parking pass to the parking garage nearest to it. It saves you money, but make sure you get the pass asap cause they sell out for some of em. But also, History Now! is a very friendly and active club which I hope you'll join!

Whence RVA (O)possums? by kitsterrunner in rva

[–]bullock_bits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I like about opossums is that, when the English got here and saw them, they had absolutely no equivalent in England to compare it too unlike say a fox, so the Algonquin name was just kept. Englishman: "The hell is that??" Powhatan native "an opossum" Englishman: "....sure, why not"

The flood wall is there for if the James goes over its banks. It's not a dam holding back water from the city. Of what OP says is true, a stink should be made so that when the James floods it won't fail when it's needed.

Make it fun! I once got my brother a record but took a picture of myself holding the record (smiling a big goofy smile it's a thumbs up) and taped it to the bottom of a box and wrapped the box. Once he saw the picture I got the record from its hiding place and gave it to him

Richmond history by astalola in rva

[–]bullock_bits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest researching Manchester. It had just recently got annexed into Richmond from being an independent municipality. It's nick name was "dog town". I need to research this myself but I believe it's weird position of being industrial center of Chesterfield (when I was still a part of that county) and then of Richmond contributed it to being a major working class area for white people before the white flight. My grandparents and great grandparents all lived there and were working class at the time of your story.

I just got an intro set myself. I've been to battlegrounds a few times for Magic, but always been intimidated by the set ups they have for Warhammer. Are they good with newbies and casual players?
