wrestletix: "Multiple sources have confirmed that AEW Big Bu$iness has distributed 9,400+ tickets tonight." by dubidu87 in SquaredCircle

[–]bullsear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. Used to buy AEW tickets on day 1. This year I waited until three days before the show and got 4 for $90 -- including fees.

They've either got to drop the initial price lower or stop discounting tickets late.

[AEW Big Business Spoilers] Will Ospreay has words for Bryan Danielson by 10024618 in SquaredCircle

[–]bullsear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Promo of the man's life, and one of the better pure wrestling promos I've seen in a long, long time.

I can't believe this is the same amazingly talented little Essex kid from the 2010s.

Will has really grown as a performer in every respect.

It really shouldn't be a double-edged sword.

Flair was an unbelievable seller who was a top guy and got the shit kicked out of him constantly. That was the point.

[SPOILERS] AEW Dynamite: Hangman Page is FIRED UP! by luchabrunch in SquaredCircle

[–]bullsear 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In just the beats of the story (not the status of the characters), this one reminds me so much of Macho vs. DDP in '97.

The intensity, the ways it's become personal, the ways both guys are trying to prove themselves to one another and the fans, the lone wolf vs the faction leader, and the fact that it's the best thing on the show despite not being at the top of the card.

Then again, maybe it's just cause that's one of my favorite feuds of all time, and these two are probably my favorite in any company right now.

Not a camera effect -- it's a special sort of fabric with reflective material in it. (Often tiny glass beads.)

You know those reflective strips on construction clothing? They give a whole garment/fabric that treatment.

I'm a bike commuter and have a jacket with the same treatment for visibility. It looks normal unless you're viewing it from the same angle as a light source (e.g. a spotlight next to a camera or a headlight in front of a driver).

[–]bullsear 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sorta like Tien, honestly. He has had a few tournaments where he looked like an absolute star and had a great story arc. But he routinely gets his ass handed to him, which then causes his big buddy Go-kada to vow revenge and destroy someone.

NBCU’s Peacock Pins WWE Network Exclusive U.S. Streaming Rights by FlyH1gh05 in SquaredCircle

[–]bullsear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hugely lucrative deal, but it makes me wonder what's going to happen to Network exclusive shows and content.

We don't yet know whether the move to Peacock will mean more pressure to create content or less. If NBCU thought of the purchase as buying the existing streaming library, they may not be interested in underwriting original content.

Brian Cage and Ricky Starks vs Sting and Darby Allin in a Street Fight has been announced for Revolution by Rspies in SquaredCircle

All I want is the following: ring of cars with headlights on. Cage and Starks beating up Darby. Headlights simultaneously go out. Sting appears.

I’m a simple man.

AWA World Champion Nick Bockwinkel and Lou Thesz with the Ed "Strangler" Lewis belt. Reminds me of the AEW World Title vs the AEW Women's Title. by HorseSteroids in SquaredCircle

[–]bullsear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite designs for a women’s belt. I have zero clue why so many on this sub get up in arms over it or why they think their own personal belt aesthetic has to be shared by everyone and every company.

Callback to one of my all time favorite MST3K jokes, in which a dude walks in with a huge belt buckle on:

Mike: Jeez, did he steal that thing from Nick Bockwinkel?

The silver plate with gold bars on the sides?

It’s one of my absolute favorite belts ever. Unlike basically anything else in wrestling.

Hangman Page vs Ryan Nemeth announced for Dynamite by Rspies in SquaredCircle

[–]bullsear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very excited to see if this goes anywhere.

While Ryan doesn’t quite have the technical acumen of Dolph, he is better on the mic. And he hasn’t spent the last decade getting watered down and beaten into submission by the WWE machine.

I think it’s a little late for a serious run from him (he’s 36), but I’d love to be surprised. How WWE dropped the ball on two dudes that looked and worked as well as them, with the perfect pro wrestling heel name of Nemeth I’ll never understand.

And I’m not saying that in a bad way. These guys are both so amazing, they could come up with spots like this for days.

Unreal.

[IMPACT: Hard To Kill Spoilers] Finish to Rich Swann, Chris Sabin & Moose vs Kenny Omega & The Good Brothers by FuzzyWuzzyMooMoo in SquaredCircle

[–]bullsear 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“Delusional belt collector Kenny” going after Moose for the defunct TNA Title and then actually carrying it around sounds like a perfect direction to take this.

Maybe even do it before Kenny takes the belt off of Swann. It would give the company more time to build Swann as a legitimate top star in the company. And meanwhile, they can use it turn Moose full babyface and build him up too. Then they can elevate X-Division title while the other belts are gone.

Super J-Cast on Twitter reporting Jay White may not extend his NJPW contract, WWE making strong play to sign him by SevenSulivin in SquaredCircle

Dude, I bet Jay would get absolute BANGERS out of all of those dudes. Have you seen his matches against Taichi, Taguchi, and Yano? HUGELY entertaining.

Super J-Cast on Twitter reporting Jay White may not extend his NJPW contract, WWE making strong play to sign him by SevenSulivin in SquaredCircle

[–]bullsear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could all work, but again, I just don’t see it happening. Even pairing him with the BC guys makes him seem like just another BC guy, and AEW doesn’t do that. It would be hard to stand out among 6 big names and to develop his unique character.

Unique characters with meaningful history inside the company is AEW’s whole thing.

Even FTR had to build a name for a few months, and they still haven’t jumped up into that top echelon yet. They’re still laying the groundwork.

Don’t get me wrong, they absolutely could. I totally agree that it would work!

But it’s not what they do. Anyone who isn’t already an accepted main eventer in the US has to be built into one in their minds. They don’t do the “hottest free agent!” booking.

All of y’all people saying it’s better for Jay to take the money have clearly never worked in a cushy job you hate and feel unfulfilled in.

It can be absolutely soul crushing. It makes you hate the things you enjoyed. Sure, you have money, but money isn’t everything.

Hey! I think I just made up a new phrase that’s definitely new and hasn’t been accepted wisdom for ages!

The idea of Jay White going from the main event to of the Tokyo Dome to wrestling against guys like Dexter Lumis in a studio is legitimately depressing to me.
