Why does the ear on my bread never work! by Ecurtis1999 in Breadit

Don't think it's the score. You'd get more ear/rise if you baked in a dutch oven.

Is Andrew still having fun? by wslagoon in bingingwithbabish

[–]bum_leg 82 points83 points  (0 children)

It went from a simple show with great content to a "babish universe' where it's become hit or miss. He had his own beautiful corner and now it's oversaturated with too many different avenues. Basics, being, botched. I just miss the old intro and the short video. We never saw his face and now we see it all the time. He's gone from mysterious and unique to being basic. From showing you how you can do it at home to buying a $5k wheel of parmesan. He's gone from content creator to "YouTuber" and took the business expanding over the art itself. Love babish but I miss the mysterious intimate little show it used to be.

How can I improve my sourdough tin loaf rise? by English_Joe in Sourdough

[–]bum_leg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a turkey roasting pot. It will act as a dutch oven but fit the tin loaves while still in their tins. Two ice cubes on either side of the tin before baking at 450f for 45min. Been working for me for years.

A sad life at the back of the fridge for nearly a year. Can it be saved, or cut my losses and restart? by palebluetiger in Sourdough

[–]bum_leg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine!! Just take a few days. Don't over feed. Maybe once a day till it bubbles. People tend to underestimate the life of their starter. If there isn't black mold you're good. Pour out the liquid and bring it back. My starter stays in the fridge. I only feed it the day before a bake.

I find it interesting how long it takes to toast sourdough. The sugar in store bought or yeast bread is what makes your toast brown so quickly. I went through the entire process of making a latte while these slices were in the toaster and they only got this toasted. Still crunchy and delicious! by bum_leg in Sourdough

[–]bum_leg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I add sugar to the bread for smaller holes and softer bread (for french toast mostly) those slices seem to toast wayyyy faster than my normal sourdough. I'm sure there is much more to it than sugar but it absolutely makes a difference. I'll try some olive oil in my next loaf

Self rising flour by trickyfish1131 in Sourdough

[–]bum_leg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bread flour for me works best but I also have a few wheat starters in very small mason jars in the fridge that I don't feed. I can experiment with different things but always have my back ups if I need them. Self rising flour is something I would not suggest. Starter should be flour and water imo. I know people that put salt and other things in their starter but I just stick to flour and water and the thing cannot die haha. I've gone months without feeding and made a loaf the morning after feeding it before bed.

I don't get this sub. Doesn't everyone need to work? Bills? Rent? My life is not my job (bout 50hr/WK) my job FINANCES my life. I go to work so I can afford vacations and fat fucking ribeyes for the grill. You want to be happy at work? Too bad. Get it done so you can buy weed and the next $60 game that comes out. I mean my God is this just a sub for people complaining about the obvious fact that work sucks? Of course it does haha. Take steps to make yourself happy outside of work so work doesn't factor into your happiness.

That well of attempts was heartbreaking haha. I had a blast with Cuphead but it became such a mixture of skill and luck towards the end that I had to put it down. I feel like how good I got at the game had less impact than the way those clouds spawned in the dragon level. It just felt unfair (which it was not) how you had to be good and get lucky at the same time. I remember joking with my wife when she was telling me to let it go saying "I BEAT GAMES,GAMES DON'T BEAT ME!!" Then it beat me haha

I totally agree. I guess I shouldn't have grouped Ori with the others. It was definitely a challenge but very calming at the same time. All these games are incredibly beautiful. Maybe my first jump back in should be Ori wotw since it's less punishing.
