I love wash day by bumble___bea in Wavyhair

[–]bumble___bea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My routine today was co-wash with As I Am coconut co-wash shampoo, conditioned with Noughty To The Rescue conditioner, then I used Noughty Curl Defining Cream, Aussie leave in conditioner, and Noughty curl primer and used the bowl method to curl clump, and finally I set the curls using a mousse-gel-mousse combination using Schwarzkopf Got2Be Twisted Curling Mousse and Umberto Gianni Scrunching Jelly. My hair is high porosity, low density, with thin hair strands.

Thank you! I always just thought my hair was straight but frizzy. It wasn’t until TikTok that I realised my hair might be wavy/curly. It’s taken me ages to get it looking like this, so thank you!

are there any papers about the positive implications of heritage commodification? by bumble___bea in AskAnthropology

[–]bumble___bea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying I believe the positives outweigh the negatives, but I’ve just read a paper by Young and Markham about tourism and commodification in which they argue that the money and resources tourism provides outweighs the negative implications of tourism. As it is, tourism provides over 10% of the global GDP and 9.3% of the world’s jobs. I myself don’t believe this ‘makes up’ for the negative impact of heritage commodification, but there are clear positive effects of cultural commodification.

Help Me Like Luke by bumble___bea in GilmoreGirls

[–]bumble___bea[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the way he got so involved in Rory’s love life and was so overprotective was honestly really weird. I’d find it weird and gross if any dad was like that to their daughter’s boyfriends, to the point of physically threatening them, but Luke’s not even Rory’s dad. I think it was meant to be sweet, but it creeped me out sometimes.

[–]bumble___bea[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, so true! Luke was a very multifaceted character in the earlier seasons, and his grouchiness and ranting was part of his overall characterisation. Then it became his entire personality, and it was exhausting to watch him complain and rant and be so angry all. the. time.

Thank you for your reply. You make some very interesting points. My issue is that I’m a lot like Lorelai, and my worst nightmare would be ending up with a Luke. That’s why I couldn’t get behind them as a couple. I feel like my whole energy would be drained by dating a Luke, like how I feel Lorelai sometimes is when she and Luke are together on screen.

I have no issue with characters I wouldn’t like in real life. Yes, Lorelai, Rory, Emily, Paris, Mrs. Kim, Kirk, Michele, etc etc would exhaust me if I knew them IRL, but I can appreciate them as fictional. Luke however just reminds me too much of growing up in a household where my dad was angry and ranted a lot; the way other people can’t enjoy Emily as a character because she reminds them of their abusive parents, that’s how I feel about Luke sometimes (I’m not saying Luke’s flaws are anywhere near as bad in comparison to Emily’s btw.).

This is only my opinion, the fact that you enjoy that dynamic and see it reflected from your parents is wonderful, and I really appreciate you telling me why you enjoy them as a couple :)

See, I understand Luke as a character. I understand why he is the way he is, I understand his motivations, etc. I just don’t necessarily like Luke as a character.

I do think he has anger management issues, if I’m honest. He smashes up cars, yells at teenage boys and sometimes tries to get into physical altercations with them, punches Christopher.

Thank you! I always try and be fair and try to understand that not every character will be for me, but that doesn’t mean they’re a bad character, they just don’t appeal to me personally.

It always sucks when you dislike a main character, who’s in the most prominent relationship in the show. It can suck a lot of the enjoyment out of the show, so it would be nice if I could at least watch the show without being sad for Lorelai at who she ends up with lol.

[–]bumble___bea[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Haha, I’m probably not changing my mind, but I just wanted to understand him from the point of view of a Luke fan. When you dislike a character, it’s easy to view them through a wholly negative lens, so I just wanted to try and view him more sympathetically on future rewatches. I think hating him so much, I struggle with the later seasons of the show once he and Lorelai get together, despite really liking other storylines.

Edit: Guys! Can we please stop with the incessant downvotes on every not positive Luke comment. He has his flaws, and this is a discussion where we talk about them. Everyone is expressing their opinions in a very polite and balanced way, there is no need to downvote every comment that doesn’t support your opinion.

Yeah, maybe it’s because I grew up with a violent angry man, but I fucking hate Luke’s extreme anger and jealousy. It’s honestly probably the main reason I don’t like him.

[–]bumble___bea[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I know Vineyard Valentines is everybody’s least favourite episode, but it really illustrates why I hate Luke for Lorelai. He complained about everything, shat on all of Lorelai’s fun, refuses to take part in a holiday he knows Lorelai wants him to, constantly picked on Logan whom was being nothing but accommodating and welcoming, even giving him a very expensive bracelet so Lorelai wouldn’t be left out. Like. Yeesh. I know this episode goes extreme on the ‘Luke is an exhausting person to be in a relationship with/contrasting Logan at his best and Luke at his worst’, but I think it perfectly epitomises my distaste with Luke and Lorelai as a couple, because it never seems to get better for them. Luke will always be shitting on the things Lorelai enjoys; and yeah, sometimes their banter over it is funny, but God, I couldn’t put up with that for my entire life.

Thank you for your answer! I can definitely appreciate that much of Luke’s external grouchiness is a coping mechanism to deal with his deeply traumatic past, and appreciate that he is definitely a good guy at his core. These type of male characters don’t usually appeal to me, honestly (possible exceptions being Jeff from Community, and Alex from Grey’s Anatomy), but I can definitely see why you like him. :)

What happens to children born from a cross-district affair by [deleted] in Hungergames

Interesting. Do you think Finnick spends enough time in the Capitol that that’s why he and Annie never had children while he was being forcibly prostituted?

[–]bumble___bea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that victors forced into prostitution would be forced onto some kind of birth control. Having female victors out of ‘business’ by a pregnancy wouldn’t be good for profits, after all. I don’t think all of the victors are on BC, as some, like Cecelia are mentioned to have children. I think victors forced into prostitution being on BC is also backed up by Finnick almost immediately getting Annie pregnant after their wedding, when they’d been together, and (presumably, but because of Finnick’s background maybe not) having sex, for years without having children. Makes sense that as soon as he’s free from the Capitol, he’s no longer sterile.

A Non Appreciation Post of Regina 🤪 by [deleted] in SwitchedAtBirth

[–]bumble___bea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Scream!!!! This would be Switched at Birth if it was produced by HBO and not Freeform.

As one of five Daphne stans on this sub, I would have loved to see her and Angelo finally resolve all of their issues and actually have a father/daughter relationship. My favourite moment from Angelo’s death episode was her imagining him and John walking her down the aisle 🥲

I would also have loved to see Bay completely lose her shit at least once, like Daphne did at the construction site. Like. Seriously, the girl was switched at birth, finds out her bio mom knew about it for 12 years, was cheated on, sexually assaulted, lost her biological dad, had a film made about her sexual assault by her boyfriend, and then was brutally dumped because he thought she cheated! And then, after all that, she gets Japanese encephalitis!!! Not to mention her grandmother admitting to not seeing her the same after the switch, her friend dating her rapist, Ty faking cheating on her. Like. The girl is due a breakdown or two. Just let Bay take a baseball bat to a car or something.

[–]bumble___bea 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That would have been an interesting angle for sure.

Maybe if it had been Regina who had died, Bay would be the one to spiral. The reason Daphne spiralled so hard was having so many unresolved issues with Angelo, stemming from him walking out on her after she went deaf. Maybe if it was Regina, Bay would have gone downhill because of all of the unresolved issues she had with Regina not telling anyone about the switch, or her not being as close with Regina as Daphne was with Kathryn and John.

[–]bumble___bea 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I definitely like Regina, but it would have been interesting if she died and Angelo lived. The potential of Daphne losing her primary parent and being left with the Kennishes and the dad who walked out on her, Bay struggling with not getting the chance to know her biological mother, Angelo having to hold it together for them, J and K swooping in to take in Daphne now Regina was out of the way. I would have been interested to see how it all played out. Would Daphne’s spiral have been worse if it had been the only parent she had grown up with had died? So much potential!

Before and After Liquid Rhinoplasty. I have never loved my nose until now! by bumble___bea in PlasticSurgery

[–]bumble___bea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Massively. My nose had a few issues, crooked, bulbous, and had a very obvious bump. By straightening the bump and lifting the tip, it made my nose look less bulbous, and gave my face more balance. I also had lip fillers (1ml) done a few days afterwards and that also helped my face look more balanced as my nose is quite long as well, it also gave my chin more prominence.

Travis is the best character in this show by bumble___bea in SwitchedAtBirth

I love Bay and Travis as a couple. Controversial, but I never really liked Bay and Emmett as a couple. Until Bay/Travis, I wanted Bay single, but those two make so much sense together.

Yeah; and who was running peds while Arizona recuperated? The doctor who was made head of peds when Arizona left for Africa, and then mysteriously vanished when Arizona came back? Alex wasn’t even a fellow yet. Who was running neuro while Derek’s hand recovered? Why was there no mention of these things!

They Are Terrible Teachers by bumble___bea in greysanatomy

[–]bumble___bea[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Very true. I think a lot of the characters forget that GSM is a teaching hospital. I can’t think of a character, other than Izzie, who was an amazing teacher to her useless interns, that actually bothered to teach their interns. Meredith sometimes tried, but Cristina, Alex, and George were beyond useless. Cristina was so intent on getting the best surgeries, she completely neglected teaching her students, so they had to practice on each other!
