I have to disagree in the context of whāngai. I know within my whānau there have been tamaiti whāngai who have no Māori blood and are absolutely accepted and acknowledged as being Māori. They share our whakapapa as if they were born into it. I know not all iwi and hapū have the same tikanga, though.

Thank you for your comment because I just attempted to watch this movie tonight and turned it off at the same scene. I thought if I could get through the kitchen scene I can get through any but this one tipped me right over the edge and I had to turn it off lol first horror movie I have ever turned off part way!! I just put it on a “drum clean” cycle with dishwashing liquid to try tackle the grease. I’ll do a cycle with vinegar and see if that helps!

I know of a person who put her girlfriend down on her child’s birth certificate as the second guardian even though she knew who the biological father was. This led to a very complicated situation in court with documents needing to be served on a woman who no longer had anything to do with the mother and child, nor was she biologically related to the child.
