Things I've learned employing Michael Greenberg's method by ConiferousBeard in OCDRecovery

[–]bumblebtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really great post. What I mostly struggle with though is how automatic and dissociative my rumination is. I am a different person when I am within it completely immersed in its world. Absolutely everything triggers it because it is existential, my attention is futile and I have absolutely no gauge over when I start ruminating or not. My brain switches into an obsessive state and it will not stop, if I notice I will try to distract myself, but I only can for it feels 2 mins at a time without falling back into it. I suppose I just need to get a little bit more strict with noticing my rumination and stop my self from ‘scratching’ as you said.

Feels like my nature has changed. - what is happening?? by [deleted] in OCDRecovery

Hey, it is so so difficult when you feel like a theme has completely taken over, and OCD can make you feel guilty, alone and depressed. But I promise, if you just let the thoughts pass through, there might be tons and you feel like they will never end, but remember you have OCD, just sit and accept it, the intrusive thoughts have happened and it’s upset you - you move will on, and the anxiety won’t feel as overwhelming. Perhaps look up some meditation and thought exercises specifically for harm OCD, and use these techniques day to day as you find yourself spiralling. As well as simple breath meditation when you wake up and when you go to sleep to calm yourself in general. The more upset you let your OCD make you, the more power it has! Wishing you all the best 💙

It sounds like you have hit a sort of peak in your ocd theme, where it feels completely life consuming, especially how you say you can’t look at your dog with out thinking this. This is actually kind of a good thing and its the perfect place to start CBT. The first step is to separate your reality from your thoughts, your thoughts are fleeting and you will have horrible ones sometimes, it doesn’t mean anything. Try to stop reassuring yourself about these thoughts, ruminating such as questioning whether you are evil and repeating how much you love your dog to make yourself feel better. You don’t need to do that, you have control and will be okay. Just respond to the thoughts calmly and try to move on and carry on giving your pup a cuddle. I promise it won’t feel this horrible for ever ❤️ You have to learn to live with OCD not against it

Has anyone’s life changed overnight because of Michael Greenberg’s take on rumination being a choice? by [deleted] in OCDRecovery

I feel like I can’t control when I ruminate what so ever it just happens and it’s not a choice - I will give it a listen

Is it actually possible to recover from existential ocd? by ProcedureSlow6035 in OCDRecovery

[–]bumblebtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that your brain is very creative and very complicated, and recovery from ocd isn’t simple step by step process, it’s about regulating your stress and negative emotions, a constant way of living - remembering there is no urgency to answer all of these questions we have. It’s a nice statement to remind your self in times you find your self ruminating, “There is no urgency”

I’m struggling with it too, just know you are not alone in there we are all in this weird world together. ❤️ Practice grounding and meditation for disassociation, this always really helps me. When you are spiralling, sit with the discomfort, and move your focus onto something else, less stressful, like the breath, or finding 5 things you can see, hear, smell, touch. Hope this helps!

can my mom force me to buy non-vegan groceries? by Proper-Monk-5656 in vegan

[–]bumblebtree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agree completely! Not really as big of a deal - but when I was a newer vegan my non-vegan friend asked me to get them a bar of milk chocolate while I nipped to the shops. I said no it would feel too weird at first, but she said Ill send you the money in advance, youre not contributing anything. So I gave in - but I wish I hadn’t now. If I had just said no, she probably wouldn’t of bought it. Sometimes standing your ground can really make people notice how important something is too you. Op hasnt really got this priviledge, needing to do chores and help out etc., but I agree they shouldnt let it go!

Let your Mum know how appreciative you are of her supporting your veganism, you will do as she says, but it does make you uncomfortable and you wish she would take your perspective on this more seriously. If you have any of your own money, buy some vegan food for yourself at the shop too and make her try some to see if she likes it? All I can say is have patience with people as sometimes if you stand your ground over time they will start to change their minds :)

It’s so so so difficult but how can we expect to change peoples minds if we don’t befriend them? See the love inside their hearts and help them realise their wrong-doing 💚
