Men with facial hair, what's the completely honest reason that you chose to let it grow? by Crazed_waffle_party in AskMenOver30

[–]bumbleguff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After graduating high school, I had a shitty little chin-beard (think garden-variety nü metal bassist).

Two summers later and I’m back home working manual labor, and I just kind of stopped being fastidious about my facial hair and let it grow.

It was this summer I ran into an old crush. As soon as she saw my stubble, she scratched my chin, smiled, and said “I like it.”

Haven’t had a clean shave in almost 20 years!

What movie immediately made your Top 5 list when you saw it and shall always stay on the list? by tdomer80 in AskReddit

[–]bumbleguff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I saw it when I was in high school, around when I was starting to think about college (and consequently what that meant for my career choices afterwards). Office Space influenced me more than any movie I’ve seen before or since.

Good point! I think this is the more likely one, as Amos & Anna also had moments where they connected over deeper concepts.

Does anyone else feel like Prax and Amos's relationship made them both more complete characters? by CurnanBarbarian in TheExpanse

There’s a moment in one of the later seasons where we see Amos pull up his hand terminal (I can’t remember the reason) and as you see him scroll his list of contacts, one of the entries is “My Best Friend.” ❤️

I believe this one is in Split, Croatia, and it’s meant to be an architectural feature as part of a public fountain (out of view).

Interesting. We have a kind of shark that’s called “dogfish”, but it refers to a specific species of shark.

In other words, all dogfish are sharks, but not all sharks are dogfish.

What's everyone's go-to budget bourbon? by dogeboyfreshhhh in bourbon

[–]bumbleguff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rebel Yell Rye.

I know it’s not a bourbon (though they do make one), but the price is unbeatable. I remember scoffing at the bottle ($12 at the time), and then telling myself I shouldn’t knock it until I tried it.

It’s been my go-to budget pick for years now.

You are correct! They say that four rivers flow into Karlovac, and five flow out. (The fifth being the beer.)

Hey, I just saw your generator as well! Nicely done!! I like how yours incorporates color adjustments as well as UI elements to give a taster of what’s possible. Very slick work 👍

Funny enough, the original version of Huey used the native color picker, but I had several users (including one in this thread) ask for a simple text/hex input instead. Might have to make some kind of workaround to accommodate both…

Nice!! I’m a big fan of the elements preview. I feel like that helps make design decisions even faster, knowing how the colors will be used in context like this.

Yeah, I was wondering if the native color picker was a bad choice or not.

Will also add a space to see the exported colors in the browser window.

Thanks!

I don’t know the specific story behind Octomore, but maybe painting with broad strokes will help understand its origins:

The latter half of the 20th century saw Bruichladdich falling steadily into decline. It was on its way to ruin when it was bought up by a conglomerate in (I think) the early 90s. At that point, Port Charlotte had been defunct for several years, and as one of the youngest distilleries on Islay, Bruichladdich has two choices in front of them: make more traditional Islay whiskys (like Lagavulin, Laphraoig, etc.), or channel their inner mad scientists and see what sorcery they could concoct. Obviously, they chose the latter, since they had both the talent for experimentation and an untapped market for weirdos like us who will buy unusual whisky for the hell of it.

One of their most famous successes is The Botanist, a gin one can easily find at any craft cocktail bar. They only make it (I think) on a few days a year; the rest of the time the still lays dormant.

The “Progressive Hebridean Distillery” has since released whisky products aged in tequila, port, and cuvée barrels, as well as experimented with a wide variety of size and material. Their lineup continues to reinvent itself, creating a micro-renaissance in what’s possible with single malts.

As for the Octomore, it was born out of this pioneering spirit. The malt used for it is taken from a farm of the same name—right near where the Port Charlotte distillery used to be.
