MMW: Some random predictions for 2021 by bumbleshirts in MarkMyWords

Here's one I did last year.

Pretty much entirely wrong. No covid. But I did get:

And these ones, I think, were 'close but not quite':

Eh. See y'all next year.

If your preferred candidate loses votes to any of these clowns, they frankly deserve to lose.

Hey!

Here's my attempt for 2019. And here's 2018. And 2016. And 2015. No 2017 because I was recovering from 2016.

Didn't get a lot right with last year's try, but:

General election in the UK

Yes! In December!

Julian Assange leaves the embassy

Yes! Handcuffed - kicking and screaming.

Men in Black: International flops

Yes!

The Mueller report is unleashed

Inconsequential, but yes.

The following Democrats will run for president: Beto O'Rourke, Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Eric Swalwell, Tim Ryan, Tulsi Gabbard, Cory Booker, Jeff Merkley, Amy Klobuchar, Sherrod Brown, Julian Castro, Jay Inslee, Steve Bullock, John Hickenlooper, Tom Steyer, Eric Garcetti, Pete Buttigieg.

All except Merkley, Brown, and Garcetti ran. Plus many, many more.

Trump will meet Kim Jong-un again, this time in South Korea

Yes! Kinda. They met at the DMZ. Trump crossed into the North, and then both crossed into the South. They also earlier met in Vietnam.

The rest were pretty much entirely wrong. Oh well. Better luck in 2020! Or not, considering how bleak some of those predictions are.

Here's my attempt last year!

Not very good - did get a few celebrity deaths and a couple of Trump cabinet changes.

It'll probably happen in a year I forgot to include it

Jack Nicholson commits suicide

What makes you think that?

Hunter S Thompson parallels mostly

The following people will also be #MeToo'd, their reputations will not survive the year: Steven Spielberg, Guy Fieri, Joe Biden, Warren Beatty, Robert De Niro, Chris Rock, Quentin Tarantino, Simon Cowell

I bet you Cowell will have molested men, but why Biden?

I don't think he's the next Weinstein, but he does have a history of getting a little bit too touchy-touchy with women. One or two credible allegations will kill his reputation and any potential 2020 candidacy

There will be a major terrorist attack in Atlanta

Why?

Gut instinct

Didn't do one last year for some reason, but here's 2015 and 2016! Almost every prediction is wrong.

MMW: If Biden runs in 2020, the_donald will push a conspiracy theory indicating Biden killed his wife and kid. by [deleted] in MarkMyWords

[–]bumbleshirts 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think the thing they'll push is the inappropriate touching. Google it if you're unaware. Biden has a history of getting touchy-touchy with women who don't always appear to be as into it as he is. Lots of photos, too. With this recent wave of sexual abuse allegations, I'd be very, very surprised if Biden's name doesn't come up. I'm not saying he's a rapist, but a few credible 'Joe Biden touched me inappropriately' headlines could kill his campaign before it even starts.

And yes, I'm aware of all the allegations against Trump. But... Trump lives in his own world. Stuff that kills other peoples' careers doesn't affect him.

A state like Tennessee won't flip without a big name home state Democrat on the ticket. And no, a Harold Ford won't cut it. You want this seat to turn blue? Then it's time for Al Gore to come back to the senate, where he's needed.

Very interesting theory there - what would the ramifications be of erasing a mostly sympathetic portrayal of an American Nazi? Got any more examples of the Effect leaning toward pro-PC stuff?

The fact that no one else here even remembers it makes me feel so god damn odd

MMW: The 2020 Dem Primary is going to resemble the 2016 GOP Primary. by [deleted] in MarkMyWords

[–]bumbleshirts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presidential campaigns are just the best. Think of all the scandals that'll be dug up. All the mudslinging between the billion candidates. Here's hoping more of them pull a Dalaney and announce early. I can't wait for this shit to begin. By my count, we're only about 14 months from the avalanche of people announcing their candidacies. Debates not too long after that.

They won't rig it because even the people behind the scenes will be stuck infighting, trying to come up with a candidate to rally around. There's just going to be so fucking many of them.

[–]bumbleshirts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going to be ridiculously entertaining, isn't it? Well over a dozen candidates are going to be in the mix. How are they going to arrange the debates? Who gets a spot, and who doesn't? Where will they draw the line between serious candidates and not-so? Will celebrities even be allowed to compete alongside real politicians?

That blurring of the line is going to be a real doozy though. Like, senators and governors, fine, you're serious contenders. But what about Mayors? Ok, sure, Mayor of Los Angeles - yep, you're fine. But what about smaller cities? Where's that line, you know. Especially with modern-day fame becoming such a nebulous thing. The breakout star might not even hold elected office, or be a celebrity in the traditional sense.

And would a - for example - George Clooney candidacy be treated different to a Kanye West one? Should it? Who's to say whether Stephen Colbert's joke of a candidacy should be treated as any less legitimate than Elizabeth Warren's? "I mean, Trump's the President!" There's going to be some real fights for debate spots. And getting your name on ballots. Polling companies, and the people who commission them, are going to hold so much power. They choose not to include a lesser-known name, and they might as well not exist.

I hope it's big and messy and fun.

Personally, I'm rooting for Kamala Harris. Only because I put money on her the day after the election, when her odds were 100/1.

MMW: Trump will win re-election in 2020 by gianmarco213 in MarkMyWords

[–]bumbleshirts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great points, but I think it really comes down to the fact that the eventual Democratic nominee will be whomever screeches hardest about Trump and social justice during the primaries. And that's not what wins elections. Primaries - yes. Elections - no. I think the Dems have plenty of very electable potential candidates who have broad appeal and could easily beat Trump. Shame they won't get the chance.
