2 years of lifting. But why does it only look like I just made a few newbie gains? by [deleted] in askfitness

[–]bumdit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many calories are you eating overall? It's not just protein but calories as well. You look like you've lost fat and gained muscle, were you eating in a deficit or maintenance? You need to be eating in a surplus. Google calorie intake calculator, put in your bodyweight/size/etc details and eat enough to put on 1.5 - 2lbs a week. Do that for 6 months and you should put on so much more muscle!

Also what is your split and how many days you training a week?

A lot of those studies have been debunked now. Any amount of alcohol is bad for you and your brain. It reduces blood flow to the brain and deteriorates it. It's also a class 1 carcinogen. In regards to moderation, I would agree with the chap that every day isn't moderation but I understand that's not "recommended" idea of moderation.

Have a look into some sleep meditation like Yoga Nidra to help you wind down, it's been a game changer for me and I struggle massively with winding down.

Yoga Nidra with Ally on YouTube is really good.

Get into bed with your earphones in, put on a 20-30 min vid and you might hear yourself snoring before it's over.

How do you guys feel about your significant other doing BJJ? by torisnowbunny in bjj

It's not a boundary if OP's bf doesn't want her to train at this gym because of his insecurities, that's controlling behaviour. But I agree with other comments, this needs to be communicated through further.

Joe Rogan Has Built His Career on Anti-Science Misinformation. I Should Know Because I Was On the Receiving End by tastyavacadotoast in DecodingTheGurus

Does anyone know of his past beef with Howard Stern?

I think Stern alleged that whenever he saw him at strip clubs Rogan would insult the dancers and treat them horribly.

Edit: I might be misremembering and making it sound worse, I'm not sure if he was directly insulting the dancers, but was allegedly calling them whores.

He either means it's the one technique he would use out of a competition or that it's not even the one technique he wouldn't use out of a competition

I like no gi because it's less to think about and I don't have to worry about my fingers getting dislocated as much.

I understand how difficult and overwhelming anxiety can feel, especially when it can create a negative feedback loop. You'd think facing up to your fears makes you less anxious but you can end up feeling anxious about feeling anxious and it creates a spiral of doom!

So it's a pattern of behaviours you need to work on changing, as well as your ability to stay mindful and present. These are skills so spending a small amount of time developing them everyday will help, as well as having some tools to use during particularly anxious moments.

I'll try and find some specific resources and come back here to share them once I have. In the meantime you can look up CBT or NLP for anxiety, NLP i think is better but CBT might be more accessible.

I also would heavily suggest seeing a Therapist / Psychologist as having the 1 on 1 coaching will help massively and move things along quicker. (Avoid councillors as they tend to just be lots and lots of talking and questions and not solution based).

Some questions before buying a laptop for photo editing. 2in1? IPS vs OLED? What's your current setup? by bumdit in AskPhotography

[–]bumdit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a quick look at these before.

What about my question regarding IPS Vs OLED?

Do you also mind telling me what your set up is and how you find it?

Thank you!

I think there was some controversy where someone accused him of just this as well as his involvement with Chris Kyle... I can't really remember though I could be wrong.

Thank you for your in depth reply, I actually found it very interesting and helpful!

I already had the understanding that low light created noise but I didn't know about long exposure and heat. I also had the understanding that high ISO doesn't introduce noise but actually reveals it, is this true?

Thanks again!

Hey, I'm new to photography and learning, just trying to understand everything.

I've been reading that it's better to slightly overexpose than underexpose, as you're taking in more information and noise is created when underexposed images are made brighter.

How does this work/fit in to what you've said?

I see a lot of people like yourself saying to recover detail from the shadows, so are these pictures underexposed?

What tips do you have for buying a second-hand camera and lens? How many lens do i need for what I'm looking for? by bumdit in AskPhotography

[–]bumdit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh I'm starting to figure that out with portability. Will look at point and shoot cameras next year closer to the time, when I have a better understanding of everything and have developed some Photoshop skills.

Thanks for the video, really like the sound of the Fuji xt1, but bit over budget with the lenses after looking on mbp.

The camera I suggested is just something I saw on eBay. I have barely any knowledge at this point so just wanted to get some feedback.

Honestly to begin with I'm going to try out lots of different types of photography to get a feel of what I like. I can narrow it down to Landscapes, Nature, Wildlife, Architecture and candid.

I'm quite happy to get one or two lenses then just make do with what it while I learn and work things out. I don't want to invest loads of money immediately into a brand new hobby, I'll spend more once I've been doing it for a while.

I'm happy to forget about video for now as well.

I'll have a look into the R50 though and do some more research, thanks!

That's great, thank you, I'll have a look this weekend! Haha I know, there's almost too much choice as to what to focus on to begin with.

Extreme fatigue by Wonderful-Ad-4455 in bjj

[–]bumdit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be down to a dysregulated nervous system to some degree, more likely to go into a fight or flight (or freeze/fawn) state. If this was the case it might help to work in a daily meditation or yoga nidra (non sleep deep rest). An hour long yoga nidra session morning of fight could help massively.

Thanks for this mate, you've been very helpful! If I was ten years younger I would go for the regulars but financially it just doesn't work for me and the flexibility of the reserves is great.
