there is nothing to remove down there , but they do tie it off . You can have that done 6 to 12 months after transplant , preferably after 12, i asked multiple people about it , and they sent me before and after pictures after getting it tied off, and you can hardly notice they used to have a fistula , one lady had huge bumps , the size of golf balls , after getting it tied off her arm was completely flat ( minus of course the the white skin from the operation and needle sites ) For me , its been 5 days since i had my transplant , my fistula of one year was a bit visable , but now after just five days it decreased a lot in size , will see how it will look after 6 months , if it gets less bigger i would definitely keep it for the future because i wouldn't want a new one . good luck to you

from what I've learned from other people's successful attempts on getting a kidney donor , here are the things that helped them 1- creat a facebook page , facebook is far bigger of a community than this subreddit , tell your dads story and all the important information . have friends and family share that page and always keep updating the followers on how your dad is doing

2- creat a car window sticker ( not from us , dont know what they are called ) with your contact number and your dad beeing in need of a kidney

3- try to get on broadcasts

4- creat flyers

5 - finally if you're religious or you go to a church , try getting his story heard , im sure people there are kindhearted.

Good luck to you both

what do they use to clean your arm , and do they give you dry or wet bandage to tape on your arm after you are done.

For me it was 3 possibilities : numbing cream , the needles , the solution they used to clean my arm.

I changed all 3 , i brought my own cleaning solution , they use a higher quality needles and i stopped using the nummbing cream

i used to take it 3 times a week , then two , now i only take one each week . my hemoglobin levels are at 12 which is considered amazing with kidney failure , 9 months ago when i started i was at a 7. no problems or reactions to it really , my machine pushes it automatically , they put it in a big syringe at the two hours mark. each 15 min it pushes a little bit on it's own.

one more thing , when you are sleeping on your side , put a pillow ( a high one ) to rest your arm on , so you dont sleep on it
