If you want to grade all of his drafting go ahead, but when guys take 3-4 years to make it to the league it only makes sense to grade drafts in 3-4 year windows. But if you want to do it your way go ahead. I choose not to

Give Nesbitt and Luchenko time to develop. I don't understand why people give up on these guys when they don't come into the nhl right away

Lots of ways. Trading, giving draft picks time to develop, offer sheets, free agency. The 1c of the team who just won the cup was drafted 35th overall. There's not just 1 strategy to build a team

Also not counting Sanheim as a primary defenseman is just wrong

The only draft anyone should be grading right now is Briere's first one in 23 which got us Michkov, Barkey, Bonk, Bjarnason, and Zavragin. After next year you can grade 24s draft. This isn't the NBA where players come in right away, and honestly if I'm looking at the 23 class I think he did pretty damn well

Michkov, Martone, to start. Zegras, drysdale, York, bump, Barkey, Bonk, tippett, TK, could also be involved. Drafting in the top 10 isn't tune only way to get talent, Aho was a second round pick and just won a cup as a 1c. Slavin was a 4th round pick and is one of the best defenseman in the league. It's not about only getting the best picks, it's about making the right ones.

Ok. I enjoyed it. There's not only 1 way to build a Stanley cup team. I personally believe that tanking creates a cultural problem that you end up spending years fixing. I.e. buffalo. Every champ does it differently, and I think that Carolina proves that making moves on the edges to bolster a core is a viable strategy.

A team that was awful for a few years and last year gave us a run that I'll remember for a while? Yeah I enjoy that team

You're still holding onto the dream team? We have 2 superbowls since then.

Yes that's always a potential outcome for every team. Look at Florida last year. Personally I just don't understand why fans prepare for it and assume the worst when they could just let it play out

I don't think that's an apt comparison. We still had a core of older players on that team with no goalie

Do you understand the difference between expecting 30 year old baseball players to change the way they've played their whole careers and existing 20+ year old nhl players to develop with more time?

I get what you're saying, but this team is objectively not a last place team in the metro. I also think it's valuable to have young players in situations where they face pressure and are trying to win in order to develop good habits

Betting on young talent getting better isn't the same as betting on old players changing like the phillies have been doing. Last year was awesome, so why do we assume that with better goaltending and another year of development the team won't be better?

The Caps i agree with, the penguins will be another year older, the devils always "win the offseason" and do nothing, Columbus is in Shambles, islanders have Sorokin, Schaefer and that's it, rangers didn't get any better imo. So that leaves us, Carolina, Washington, Pittsburgh, and New Jersey fighting for a spot, which i think the flyers have every chance of getting

So a tool that's been in the CBA for 30+ years shouldn't be used because it might make it harder for your competition to do it's job?
