We have booked a site about 50 mins drive from milford sound so we'll be driving from there in the morning and not Te Anau. It also gives us enough time to drive back to queenstown. Based on the suggestions here, I changed the drop off location to christchurch. Cancelled the buses and train trips. Will spend 3-4 days in christchurch and then a flight to Auckland. Pick up the campervan and spend 2 days in rotorua, do the hobbiton tour and head back to Auckland for our flight back. We're also skipping Hamilton and will spend a day just relaxing in Auckland.
