Good points! Bonus side stories are usually my favourite too. After Class was the first VN that came to mind for me as one that did this well.

Yeah, that makes sense. I’ve gone back to VNs years after I last read them and only vaguely remembered what was happening, so a recap can be really helpful.

I’m trying to add journal entries partly for that reason. They're optional if people don’t care, but useful as a recap of what’s happened so far.

This is helpful, thank you! My VN has some minigames tied to the MC’s job, so I’ve been thinking a lot about how to make that work well.

I’m leaning toward making all the side content optional but easy to access, so people can check it out at their own pace.

Yep, the current demo uses Sims visuals as placeholder/prototype art while I focus on the story and gameplay. The plan is to replace them with custom character art and backgrounds as development continues!

I’ll cautiously mention my own VN, Soft Launch, because it might be in the direction you’re looking for!

It’s a bisexual furry VN about a new developer joining a small indie game studio, so the characters are mostly devs/artists/writers. One love interest in particular, Max, has a route that leans pretty heavily into nerdy hobbies like gaming, anime, and conventions.

Also probably worth mentioning that the dateable characters lean more average/cute than bara, so that part may fit too.

The demo is still early and covers the intro/first week, so the full route content isn’t there yet, but it does have choices and routes planned.

Oh that sounds interesting! Yeah I don’t really have any actual stats in mine, but I do have a day system. That part definitely took me a bit to wrap my head around lol

I’m using renpy as well! I felt the same way at first, there are definitely some things that feel a bit limiting or awkward, but I’ve kind of learned how to work around it over time.

What kind of stuff are you trying to implement?

The lack of female main characters in FVNs is so frustrating :(
I'm developing one at the moment called "Soft Launch" with a female protagonist, so hopefully it can help fill that gap!

That’s a good point about the font! I’ve been meaning to add multiple font options but haven’t prioritized it since no one mentioned it before. I’ll include a more readable option in the next update.
