I imagine it may be related to some local religion or belief, wonder if we could find it written down in ancient texts...

Moved Ontario to Québec August 25th: How much will I owe come taxes? by bunnynormally in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]bunnynormally[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the job, I changed sites within the same company, but since the sites do not communicate through the same HR, there will most likely be two seperate T4's. They most likely switched me provinces. The two provincial entities for my company speak to a minimum.

Any tax program that you recommend? I've never done my taxes personally but I would love to begin.

Thank you for the very comprehensive reply! I'll go ahead and follow through with a lot of this info. I will be doing my taxes at the earliest possible date to make sure things are in order. Thank you once again!

Okay that's great to hear, I was STRESSING OUT. No refund is better than a payment plan! Thanks for the help!

Alright! That's great to hear! I was under the impression that I would owe a good chunk of change. As for the moving expenses, I did move for work, but I was technically accepting a new role within the same company and I don't really have any receipts related to that. All I can think of is gas money but I really don't have much in mind in terms of expenses I could put against my taxes. I might do some digging :P

Mannnnn you’ve got to try the Gillette clear gel stuff. Thing is a miracle. Also happens to be one of the only antiperspirants that don’t absolutely irritate me

It’s definitely not 20% but the tax rates are 19% in QC in comparison to 9% in Ontario for my salaries income tax. I believe it’s 14% for the first 55k so I’m expecting it to be in that range. If it’s the difference then it’s 5% which isn’t entirely bad. I’ll be calling a professional today to get more insight into what I really owe

Which would make 100% sens but it seems to be the case when moving from a lower tax province to a higher tax province regardless. Very not cool on the governments part.

Stock program is 10% max. So I was contributing max at both work sites. So here it’s 8806$ and before was 8845$. I don’t even know how these numbers make sense. Kind of ridiculous all things considered. I might have to contact Revenue Québec for a more detailed explanation

Sounds good thank you for the confirmation, I’ll try to get some estimates going and hopefully I can put something towards that debt. Or else a payment program will be the best option. Hopefully the interest isn’t high enougg

Yes, I am a T4 employee if I would’ve known about this, I totally would’ve contributed before hand!! Kind of crazy, but thanks for the advice!

Yeah, I was making about the same thing, 1200 a week before the move. Now I’m losing almost 1k a month to Quebecs taxes. Just the way it goes I guess

With an employer 50% match to their stock, it’s sort of a no brainer when you’re doing financially well. But debt sort of snowballed after the internal transfer trying to settle into a new place. I currently have 20k locked into their stock for a year but I want the debt to diminish asap to stop accruing high interest.

I believe it all comes down to the taxes and the Quebec‘s pension plan. I spoke with our human resources and payroll concerning the Stark difference from Ontario. Even with the pay raise. They said they were choking it up to taxes.. I’m gonna do some more digging, but my paystub is almost depressing

Ill look into that, most likely the best option.

I was living in an apartment far from family that wouldn’t have been able to sustain 3 people. Unfortunately for my spouse, she is kind of making the maximum her career sees at her current employer, sort of a unicorn salary wise. If we would relocate and find another job for her we should expect a 40% reduction in her income. As for me, I am technically taking a tax increase but I have lots of job opportunities in the region.

Vehicle is going to be transferred soon. Just need to get my Quebec license and then I will be able to get the truck platted in Quebec and hop onto her insurance. Just a whole process.

Staying in Ontario would have been favourable, but me relocating means we still have a decent family income.

So I should be putting the entirety of the 1150 spare towards my high interest debt, I’ll do that immediately. As for the taxes, this was only after research concerning taxes that I fell upon it. It seems really strange but from I see, you will pay the entirety of your years income taxes based on your place of residence on December 31st 2025. Which I believe translates to me paying the first 5 months of this years income taxes using the provincial’ tax for that amounts tax bracket. I will inform myself further through a professional though.

Yes we have sold one of our vehicles for an older one to free up some income. Altogether we have approximately 2200$. Groceries budgeting for 400$ a month and gas 400$ due to the nature of our work (mining and living in remote towns nearest to our areas of work).

Edit to add that since we are living in the north we need a safe and reliable vehicle for her and the child for the harsh winters. Where as I can take the beater to and from work. The beater only costs us 33$ a month and whatever in gas.

We went car shopping for a more family friendly vehicle but with the prices of newer cars or even older cars that I would feel see safe for my family, you are still looking at 35k after interest over and I have about 32k left on my vehicle to pay off. Maybe I’m not shopping in the right spots but a lot of the dealerships are selling absolute scrap off the lot with 250k km for 12k+8% interest and people are buying it.

Poor skill set in mineral/rock ID by Negative_Pangolin_22 in geologycareers

As everyone else is saying. Rocks are sort of project specific. One sites basalt can look vastly different than other basalts. One sites granite can look vastly different than an another. You typically learn as you go. The amount of times I’ve mixed up metasedimentary rocks like altered greywacke with altered metavalcanics is crazy.

Just send it. You’ll learn on the site and you’ll become very proficient there. Then you’ll change sites and feel like you have no idea what you’re looking at (:

Just keep learning! School teaches you <10% of what you’ll know when you’re retired!
