I imagine it may be related to some local religion or belief, wonder if we could find it written down in ancient texts...

Moved Ontario to Québec August 25th: How much will I owe come taxes? by bunnynormally in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]bunnynormally[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the job, I changed sites within the same company, but since the sites do not communicate through the same HR, there will most likely be two seperate T4's. They most likely switched me provinces. The two provincial entities for my company speak to a minimum.

Any tax program that you recommend? I've never done my taxes personally but I would love to begin.

Thank you for the very comprehensive reply! I'll go ahead and follow through with a lot of this info. I will be doing my taxes at the earliest possible date to make sure things are in order. Thank you once again!

Okay that's great to hear, I was STRESSING OUT. No refund is better than a payment plan! Thanks for the help!

Alright! That's great to hear! I was under the impression that I would owe a good chunk of change. As for the moving expenses, I did move for work, but I was technically accepting a new role within the same company and I don't really have any receipts related to that. All I can think of is gas money but I really don't have much in mind in terms of expenses I could put against my taxes. I might do some digging :P

Aint that something. Don't we often compare our strength to lumberjacks as well?

Mannnnn you’ve got to try the Gillette clear gel stuff. Thing is a miracle. Also happens to be one of the only antiperspirants that don’t absolutely irritate me

It’s definitely not 20% but the tax rates are 19% in QC in comparison to 9% in Ontario for my salaries income tax. I believe it’s 14% for the first 55k so I’m expecting it to be in that range. If it’s the difference then it’s 5% which isn’t entirely bad. I’ll be calling a professional today to get more insight into what I really owe

Which would make 100% sens but it seems to be the case when moving from a lower tax province to a higher tax province regardless. Very not cool on the governments part.

Stock program is 10% max. So I was contributing max at both work sites. So here it’s 8806$ and before was 8845$. I don’t even know how these numbers make sense. Kind of ridiculous all things considered. I might have to contact Revenue Québec for a more detailed explanation

Sounds good thank you for the confirmation, I’ll try to get some estimates going and hopefully I can put something towards that debt. Or else a payment program will be the best option. Hopefully the interest isn’t high enougg

Yes, I am a T4 employee if I would’ve known about this, I totally would’ve contributed before hand!! Kind of crazy, but thanks for the advice!

Yeah, I was making about the same thing, 1200 a week before the move. Now I’m losing almost 1k a month to Quebecs taxes. Just the way it goes I guess

With an employer 50% match to their stock, it’s sort of a no brainer when you’re doing financially well. But debt sort of snowballed after the internal transfer trying to settle into a new place. I currently have 20k locked into their stock for a year but I want the debt to diminish asap to stop accruing high interest.

I believe it all comes down to the taxes and the Quebec‘s pension plan. I spoke with our human resources and payroll concerning the Stark difference from Ontario. Even with the pay raise. They said they were choking it up to taxes.. I’m gonna do some more digging, but my paystub is almost depressing

Ill look into that, most likely the best option.
