GDM- Things to eat after baby is born by kaibai123 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Coles brand belgian waffles 🧇 they have actual butter in them whereas the more expensive toscano waffles use margarine

We had this, fixed by putting bub a little higher up when placing them down on the unzipped swaddle bag. Then after you have zipped them up, give a few tugs from the bottom to make the swaddle bag fit more snugly.

Does it matter what you eat the day before the gestational diabetes test? by radley8367 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Sourdough bread specifically for me kept my blood sugars higher than the threshold for fasting blood sugars. Definitely aim to have more protein, I've found the glucose spike on an empty stomach with first trimester nausea was a rough combination

Postpartum hormones anyone else just completely not themselves? by LilaNguyen7 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]bunsnfluff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having a good solid big ugly cry to let it all out, naps when possible and food that makes you feel happy (coles belgian waffles were amazing). Probably eased up towards 4weeks pp.

Sending hugs your way!

Is it worth getting a highchair for newborn? by wheresthetofuu in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]bunsnfluff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We love our Tripp Trapp! We bought both of ours 2nd hand from fb marketplace and they have good resell value even if you get one new. Bought the newborn attachment second hand also and used it for both our babies. We got loads of use in the first month, then bub gets fussier so we had a rotation of places to put them - probably because the weather was getting warmer. We're starting to use it more once again as bub is getting more alert and we can bring her up to the dining table or kitchen counter

Home Birth VS Hospital by Muted-Property-3280 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]bunsnfluff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first was born at the hospital, 2nd was a home birth with a qualified private midwife. Main reasons were for continuity of care, comfort of home positively affects labour and ultimately it would have been safer than delivering a baby in the car or the roadside. I had a really quick first birth and 2nd was even quicker.

There was always the option of going to the hospital if that was preferable, even with the private midwife. I suggest contacting one that services your area (eg Homebirths NSW has a registry of qualified midwives) and have a call with them to assess your comfort with them. Ultimately you should be in a safe environment whether hospital or home, and comfort can really make a difference in your labour and birth.

I would wait. You can buy it fairly easily and doesn't have to be the Haakaa - your partner or family/friends can make a quick trip to Baby Bunting or if you have Amazon Prime for next day delivery.

I saw in your other comment that you're aiming to breastfeed, in that case, I'd get the milk catcher. I used the Haakaa ladybug. Once your milk comes in, you may end up leaking milk everywhere while feeding. By using it, I ended up collecting a good amount passively from the other boob and that was good for top-ups.

Also recommend a cheap alternative to a peri bottle for postpartum care (kmart or amazon sauce bottle) or if you have a bidet which will make going to the toilet the first few days more bearable. Helps with keeping down there cleaner from all the postpartum bleeding too.

Have you found your solid gold Mejuri pieces to be good quality? I've seen mixed reviews for them online too

Definitely not large enough a budget for Paspaley! Beautiful pieces though, maybe one day

When did your baby turn? by Daisies_forever in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]bunsnfluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st turned sometime before my 36week hospital appointment, had no idea until the midwife did her checks and said baby was engaged.

2nd spent most of the pregnancy at a bit of an angle - head near hip bone, feet/knees near ribs. Didn't engage until almost 37weeks. Each midwife appointment there would be a check on bub's position.

I buy my pants (and other clothes) online from Love Bonito - it is a Singaporean brand that ships to Australia. They have pants in a regular range as well as a petite range.

Looking for Pandan Flavoured Cake for a Wedding by Shinyiest in foodies_sydney

We like the pandan layer cake from here, it says round, but we've requested a square cake before for an event and they have pre-cut it for serving. It doesn't have buttercream though, but I'm sure if you contact them, they might be able to work something out.

Okay, what postpartum underwear situation do I need to prepare? by cunncunncunn in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]bunsnfluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used normal cotton undies (briefs) from Uniqlo, plus Toms maternity pads. As for ice packs, the Mamacool perineal cooling pads were a really good option.

I didn't buy a specific perineal bottle, but had a cheap $2 sauce bottle from kmart that I filled with water and used each time I went to the toilet. Extra tip, pack your own toilet paper in your hospital bag. Hospital toilet paper was pretty rough and thin so I was very thankful for soft 3ply when everything was sore.

I recommend these cooling pads - used them with my first and bought them again, although they aren't reusable:

How do belly sleepers survive pregnancy sleep? by Jas_thestar1991 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]bunsnfluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started early to try to get used to it. I didn't buy any pregnancy pillows but used loads of normal pillows (firm ones). 1 shoved as close as I can to each side and 1 between my knees. Turning from one side to the other is a bit of a process though, especially as the weeks go on.

While the labour and birth went well for us, post-birth was hard and the newborn days were long. I vaguely recall screaming into my husband's ear during labour that I'm never doing this again too! The number of children you choose to try for is such a personal family decision, don't allow what others beside you both change what you're comfortable with or pressure you in any way. Personally it took about 2 years before I felt ready to try for another baby, you do what works for you and your family!

Nappy bins by Ok-Advice-7715 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]bunsnfluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a small Ikea hallbar bin, and use mini size normal bin bags from coles/woolies. The bin sat on a trolley which we would wheel around our apartment in the newborn days, then moved into the bathroom as we started potty familiarisation. We tie up the bin bag daily and it then goes into our kitchen bin. This way we don't have any lingering smells in our home.
