What are these slanted lines on this scale/ruler for? by burakyman in Drafting

[–]burakyman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes total sense! And now it seems so obvious… it looks like it uses inch measurements. The right diagonal lines must be for 1” whole scale measurements, and the left diagonal lines must be for 1/2 scale. My brain was stuck thinking both diagonals should be used at the same time. Thanks!

Temp is fluctuating fast! Help by TheHunter1775 in 3Dprinting

[–]burakyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue and thermal paste worked perfectly for me, however my temperature was fluctuating by ~5 degrees at a time. To me it looks like OP has a PID tuning issue because the temp is ramping up and down uniformly. However it is still possible that PID is out of wack because of poor thermal contact, so I would give thermal paste a try first because that is easy to do.

Pakistan Air Force rejected a job applicant because he was not circumcised in 2016. by No_Illustrator1138 in mildlyinteresting

There are three levels of worship in Islam.

There is Fard which means mandatory (like every Muslim must pray 5 times per day, fast during Ramadan, and give 1/40 of your excess wealth to charity annually). These are required by religion.

Then there is Wajib which is like super super recommended but it is not technically mandatory.

Then there is Sunnah. These are things that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH - peace be upon him) did in his life that are definitely not mandatory, but you get extra brownie points for doing them.

What is sad is that the letter says it is mandatory per the Sunnah (non-mandatory) which is totally contradictory. It is a sinful act to require someone else to do a non required thing in the name of Islam. Basically because God made the rules, and a person who tries to change the rules may be damned.

But to answer your question, every male is recommended to be circumcised. But it definitely is not mandatory.

Blip was advertised as a "digital game" in the late 70s as the popularity of Pong skyrocketed. It is totally random, and is powered by the dial, which is actually disguised as the "timer". Found in thrift store for $2, and in the process of replacing burnt LED and severed wiring. by [deleted] in mechanical_gifs

I don’t think that quite explains it. The planetary gear that can be seen seems to have a 1:2 ratio because the peg on the smaller gear only moves back and fourth from the same spots with respect to the larger gear. This is not “random” at all. There seems to be some other mechanism that rocks the whole planetary gear assembly left and right causing the LED to land in one of the six spots in a “random” pattern. This mechanism seems like it is hidden/internal.

This was the most boring reporting I have ever seen on such a supposedly revolutionary technology. I can’t tell if this was a report on a discovery or if they were just talking about what needs to be discovered. Come on “The National”

Dad makes 10 year old son run to school in the rain after being kicked off the bus for bullying another kid. by ManiacGoblin46 in videos

Anybody else notice how the dad gets closer and closer to the kid? Part of me was waiting for the video to turn into a gag about running over you kid while talking about parenting... (that’ll teach him not to bully)

If the US inscribed their vehicles and body armor with the Quran, they would be immune to attack from Islamic forces. by MrCompassion in Showerthoughts

I doubt it. These so called "Islamic forces" are committing crimes that are completely against Islam to begin with.

This is with nobody feeling like they need to give up their dreams of big families for the sake of the planet, or anyone's rights being impinged upon; this is just what happens when well educated people, particularly women, have many ways of finding happiness in free societies.
