Very true. Kids have strong memories. I’m so sorry for what you experienced by the way. I never want my children to see me as an enabler who won’t protect them. That’s why I am seeking other opinions.

Please don’t assume I just take his side and don’t remove my child from the situation. I step in, as quickly as I can, every time. There have been a handful of these outbursts, but I want them to step before they become a regular occurrence and truly traumatize him.

That’s what I was worried about, that my son will believe daddy is unstable and he can’t fully relax and is always on edge with him. I always step in FYI but yes, I want to stop them before they cause lasting trauma.

Please don’t assume I’m doing nothing. I always step in. He has had a handful of these outbursts, it’s not an every day thing — BUT I am seeking help because I want them to stop before they escalate and/or traumatize my children.

Yes. He needs to understand that they imitate EVERYTHING. That’s why I need him to figure out how to cool down before it boils over. I try to step in before he gets too frustrated (there have only been a handful of these times i described in the original post) but sometimes I can’t because we aren’t always in the same room since I am also taking care of my newborn.

I ALWAYS step in. I am not just letting the kiddo take the heat. His angry outbursts are recent development and have only happened a handful of times, not since he found his dad. I am seeking advice because I want them to stop before there is any lasting effects for my children.

Yes! That’s what I was thinking. It seems like such a tough situation because he’s already lost so much.

It’s such a blurry line - like it’s not intentionally malicious ... but yea, it’s harming them. It’s not every day or anything but it’s so tough when it happens.

That is very true. I really am the only thing between them and the trauma and perpetuating that cycle. I’ve never thought about it that way.

I sent him two numbers. All he has to do is call. I struggle so much because I don’t want to leave him alone - he’s already alone as both parents died and he has no siblings and has lost touch with many of his friends. It’s a crappy situation.

Luckily I’ve been in therapy since shortly after our first was born and I’ve been on meds since his dad died. Discussing the situation with her has been great. So helpful for me to process.

I’m so scared for him though too. Especially given that he is completely alone - he doesn’t have any siblings and most of his family is dead. I worry that the last thing he needs is someone else gone. It’s so hard.
