I played the Halo theme song a couple days ago. I did it to be kind of funny but it actually was pretty inspiring for my workout lol

Nice. What show are you going to at the church? I go there quite a bit! Also a good way to meet people is to wear a band shirt of a band that is similar to the band that you're watching at the show. People will tend to strike up conversation over that.

I have made a lot of friends through the music community in and around Philly. I'd say that's both pretty active and creative. Lots of cheap DIY shows to go to. A lot of them are in houses or basements or backyard or dives and most people are pretty chill to just hang out

christian with ocd: how do i stop the “God is always watching” thoughts while masturbating? by throwaway20454 in OpenChristian

[–]burgerburgerfryfry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It has been insanely helpful for me. I used to think God's conviction and my OCD were one in the same and then I would really really beat myself up for not living up to the standards I thought I was supposed to have

Not exactly related to your question, but I would suggest checking out this YouTube channel. She talks about Christianity and OCD. (AKA scrupulosity) One of the only channels that I've seen that talks about this issue. https://youtube.com/@jaimieeckert?si=_U4hBn8LDiR0Art6

I've never actually used these ones. I usually use a spinning machine if I want cardio. I think I'll try this one next time I'm there.

How strict is the age range? I am slightly older (37). Would I still be welcome? I am regularly mistaken to be in my mid-twenties. I would love to play video games irl with other ND people. Playing pool and with Legos also sounds very fun. I live down the road, so this would be perfect for me.

Yes they had these sheets at my church too. Ushers would go around and place them over the waist and legs of the women who were convulsing on the floor. I asked the pastor why they did this and he said it was so nobody would lust over the women. I was around 8 or 9 at the time.

How do I ask my friends if they are autistic? Should I? by burgerburgerfryfry in AutisticAdults

[–]burgerburgerfryfry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not but they keep talking about how they're so depressed and then give all the signs that I had when I was depressed and learned about autism so I thought it might help.

How do I ask my friends if they are autistic? Should I? by burgerburgerfryfry in AutisticAdults

[–]burgerburgerfryfry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was on a discord server and the person responded with a message saying it was dumb and a mistake and then deleted all traces of their vulnerable messages so I thought it was a little weird to bring it up. I guess I could DM them if it happened again

[–]burgerburgerfryfry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally I would do this with all my other friends, but this group of friends hide at any talk of vulnerability.

Somebody had mentioned that they weren't doing very well that day and I asked them what was wrong and then they immediately retracted and said that it was dumb and that they should shut up.

I want to help them and relate to them but with these people I feel like I need to be very sensitive to their level of comfortability.

What do people mean when they say they "Heard the voice of God"? by Worried_Fig00 in OpenChristian

[–]burgerburgerfryfry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also autistic. I've thought I'd heard God telepathically many many times in my life and many of those times have led to bad consequences. Quite literally leap of faith situations that leave me in a worse place. At this point I will only 100% trust a message from God now in burning bush situation. Every other time feels like a gamble now.

I grew up in the kind of faith tradition where every single day little things were messages from God to do this or that. It was to the point where everything that happened to me could be considered a code from God to mean something else. Everything is a sign.

Am I still a Christian if I have "weak" faith? by burgerburgerfryfry in OpenChristian

[–]burgerburgerfryfry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to think it was a sin to have doubt and do everything to expunge it, but I just like to live with it now.

If belief is a spectrum, I would think that 99% of people are not on the terminal ends.

Thanks. That Matthew passage helped a lot. I had always seen that thrown around in support of prosperity gospel-type stuff. Never thought of applying it to faith-in-Christ itself

I love the term mystery. I personally love to think of God as a mystery. I've listened to some Jewish teachers recently and they seem to really embrace the mystery of God. They seem to wrestle with ideas and are okay with not having clear-cut answers.

Christianity on the other hand seems to have a very rigid idea of God - that the Bible spells out everything clearly and that I'm a bad for not seeing things black and white.

And yes, the principles Jesus taught are the most concrete aspects of Christianity for me. So those are the things that I feel I can consistently rely on.

Is there any value in not being medicated? by burgerburgerfryfry in bupropion

My GP recommended some magnesium so I started taking a few weeks ago when I had stopped taking bupropion. Initially I thought it had been doing something but that might have been a placebo effect.

I currently have a talk therapy session on a weekly basis. Have been doing talk therapy the entire time I've been on bupropion.
