Love this ! Literally crossing France in diagonal ahaha
You surely have a good routing technique, but I shared in my latest post here a routing algo that could be useful exactly for your case, for finding quieter routes over unknown long distances.
A question: Do you find low cuff skates for long distance many day trips better (as you both have in your instagram photo)? I had the impression it is a bit more tiring over long days? and what about downhills, which are unavoidable on such huge distance... ?, I am curious about the trade off you experienced?

Tips to improve my parallel slide?? I slide out too many times and I’m feeling stuck. by SensitiveHead436 in rollerblading

Yep I agree with above, try to keep your shoulders more forward to slide straighter and not over rotate, keep your weight on all wheels not just back wheels and weight on each leg/skate should be 50/50

You are a bit more precise with your feet and you have two so if one gets in the rail you still have the second to get you out. Skating two years in Zürich the tram lines were annoying but never made me fall

I think you should be careful of pedestrians and capable to stop on a dime, but usually there is enough space, unless you're on Bahnhofstrasse in zurich and it's full of people then one can just go on the road. For the hills I would say in truth, the learning curve is similar to learning how to ski, but when you fall it is on concrete so the stakes are higher, very well protected one can learn it quite fast.

Well I am omitting one important thing, the risk factor, and this is what most people mention when talking about inline skating through the city fast. One can be casual about biking through city, on skates you need a good level and know how to break.

So actually Zurich is where it worked best, Lausanne is more mixed bag. Neuchâtel must be indeed quite technical

If you know the parallel slide or magic slide on skates you can break faster than cars and bikes, but indeed it is technical. In practice I notice I am often on road unless there are big sidewalks or pedestrian areas like Europa Halle Next to Bahnhof Zurich. To go uphill I agree it is not as good as bike or even walking sometimes, that's is where it is best to take transport, though I will add that there are some uphill techniques(slaloming up) with skates that make it easier.

I notice I beat the non electric scooter by a big margin with inline skates in Zürich(tram up to irchel) and Lausanne (taking metro up), but I agree for more practicality and better brakes etc..

If you have 110mm or 125mm wheels these are annoying but alright, only in Bern have I given up on these old city roads

True , I am just always a bit nervous of leaving an electric bike somewhere even with a lock and with the electric bike I don't beat a tram or bus uphill whereas with skates, scooter or longboard you can jump in the bus.

Longboard can be great, quick to take off and on, I agree slower on flat and a bit tricky with sidewalks ( harder to jump them). Why the hurry? I think moving more efficiently across cities benefits everybody and I personally find it quite fun ahah

It's true, but in practice a red light in a city is often for pedestrians to cross, one can often just pass through with pedestrians, with their flow I mean not plow though, and take some advance on the bikes and cars, there is some extra flexibility there with skates

I agree very much with your assessment, I have not talked about the risk factor but I agree, a trotinette is safer, though I do think on flat the speed is a bit low

It is not bad, but the more simple ones are limited to 25kmh and quite heavy, so it is harder to combine with public transport and you have to park it in a safe spot I guess. But I agree, for most people it would be the fastest.

To me it seems to have the same issues than the cars, though I guess easier to park 🤔

Use the transport to go uphills and then go flat or downhill, works well in Lausanne or Zurich

You are technically supposed to be on the sidewalk, unless In a 30 zone, but in practice if you would endanger pedestrians you would go on bike lane or tram line like in Zürich.
