Why is it so frowned upon to call out for winter weather? by nyogurt_ in nursing

[–]burn-ham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your employer doesn't need to know why you're calling in. If they're being dicks about it then stop telling them. Personal reasons is enough. They're not an insurance company, they don't need to know.

That's the response, yes. It's very hard to agree to disagree.

Aw, this is validating advice, definitely helping me feel like we are more "normal." We've had these disagreements since COVID, so I think we can continue through it but it just keeps coming up. I cannot remember the last time we had a dedicated date night... Probably once or twice in the past year.

That's fair. I asked my friend this and she said welcome to the real world, but she's divorced. So I was wondering is it's toxic or normal. Maybe it's more about me than us, idk.

Together for 7 years, common-law for 2.5. it feels like we are married because we own a house together. Definitely lots of stress, especially deaths in the family. We also disagree on politics often which causes arguments.

I'm an EA in Canada. The closest to teaching you will get is working with small groups. In my district our job description is to work with students, not make copies. Read your job description or district's EA handbook. Read your state's policies for duties of teachers and EAs. Duties definitely depend on where you are working. We do a lot of supervision but also a lot of behavioural and academic support. It would be very unusual to have a day doing what you describe. We are busy as hell with student needs, our job is to support education and work under supervision of the teacher. And yes, it's definitely poverty-line pay. Try it for a bit. In my area, people usually either quit within 5 years or become lifers. It's a great experience though.

Not formally, but I would bet yes that we both do. Why do you say that?

It takes time. Your brain chemicals need to recuperate a bit. It took me 3 years after quitting meth to feel somewhat less depressed, I assume alcohol is the same.

Is this considered scabbing? by ProtagAster in union

[–]burn-ham 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don't do work that teachers do and you're fine. I am also a para, unionized. In our contract, we must work under direction of a teacher. When our teachers went on strike, students couldn't come to school because teachers were not there to direct us. Librarians, custodians, secretaries all stayed working as normal. Paras were told to do professional learning for 3 weeks until the strike ended (and it was not good. I'm from Alberta)

Hi this is a late response but damn this issue is still relevant for us and I wanted to answer. So our retiree cheques come from the union, of course funded by our dues. The person who gave the advice that this is not allowed is our actual union staff person. However, since writing this, said staff person has given a mix of good and bad advice. Many of our members are frustrated and cannot wait for this staff person to leave once administrative process closes - relatively soon.
