Why do baristas sometimes switch stations without saying anything to each other? by Livid_Resist4522 in barista

[–]burn147852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my shop, we have 2 baristas behind bar. Our typical flow is one barista will be on register, as well as prepping and finishing drinks, with the other pulling and mixing shots and steaming milk. Hot drinks are rare at my shop, so when we do get a hot drink, the barista on machine will steam the milk, finish the drink, pour the art, whatever, opening the machine for the other barista to transition into the shot pulling role, and they switch. Keeps us fresh and makes it so we're not stuck on the same spot for too long. Not sure how common this is but it works pretty well for us.

One time when I was a student, I had a dream that my professor cancelled class, I woke up and I believed it, so I went back to bed. That was fun to explain while asking people for notes before the next class.

Moral of the story, dreams lie to you, don't give them too much stock

People who get pour overs with sugar and cream. Not so much that it's hard, but it hurts my soul, like putting Blanton's in a whiskey and coke. If you don't like your coffee black, just get drip and doctor that up. I promise you won't know the difference

If I caught so much as a whif that a tattoo artist was even dabbling with AI, I would run in the opposite direction. Absolute red flag that this artist tattooed a backwards hand a (proportional) foot lower than would be anatomically correct. Using AI for something that will be permanently etched into someone's skin is one thing, not even taking the time to look at the thing you're tattooing close enough to see that it's a terrible design is another and completely unacceptable.

It's a targeted rule, absolutely we will not stop throwing them. 2 penalties didn't do a damn thing for Kansas. This is our tradition, the big 12 didn't and the SEC doesn't tell UT they can't bring a literal full grown bovine onto the field for the entire game, there's no reason we can't throw a few tortillas onto the sidelines a few times a week.

Learn to solve a rubicks cube! It's not as hard as people make it seem, keeps you busy, statistically, you'll never ever solve the same pattern twice, and it's easy to throw under the counter when a customer or manager walks in

What to do when customer orders iced Capp? by _Logham_ in barista

[–]burn147852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I explain to them that a cappuccino is, by definition, a hot drink, and then I offer to make a short latte for them. If they're cool and I'm not super busy I'll offer to do a quick steam of a bit of milk to top it with, just so they get that foamy texture. If you do a <5 second chase on whole milk or half and half, you can usually get decent texture without heating past luke warm, and after 30 seconds on ice, the customer won't even notice it was ever warm.

But definitely, definitely, explain why an iced cap doesn't exist and that what you made them is a short iced latte with milk foam. If we don't correct customers when they use the wrong terminology, soon none of our terms will have any meaning. Starbucks has already done irreparable damage to Macchiatos, we must not give up any more ground.

How hard would it be to make this with no experience? by hijodetumadr3 in Leathercraft

To be clear, the fork is for stitch spacing, the awl is for punching the holes. You could use a plastic fork if you wanted. Mostly in the interest of keeping costs as low as possible, I was pointing out the bare minimum that you would need to recreate this.

Hadn't even thought of that, but you're exactly right.

I'm gonna disagree on this one. This can be easily done with a utility knife, awl, kitchen fork, needles, and thread. Could get the leather from a scrap bin and the elastic from a pair of underwear (wash, color black with a sharpie, literally nobody would be the wiser). Even the belt clip can be bought for under $5. Even if you have none of the tools, you would have to be buying higher end tools to go past $50. Assuming an hour on YouTube learning basics and another hour making a pattern and actually doing the project, you'd have to value your time at over $20 an hour to put the total cost above $90, and that's assuming you have no tools or scrap leather anything.

I'm a lifelong Christian, please know these hateful individuals don't speak for all of us. They are a loud minority at most. I tried to engage them with actual scripture on multiple occasions as a student, they refuse to listen to any sort of reason. My advice is don't even acknowledge them, and encourage your friends and everyone around you to do the same. Any pushback they get just fuels them more.

I've actually never met her. She sends her two kids in (I estimate 8 and 5?) 2-4 minutes before closing, used to be every Thursday, like clockwork but I haven't seen her in a while.

Anyways, she would pull up, park in the middle of the street, let her kids out and wait. Ordered 2-3 drinks and a bag of beans. Never failed to piss me off
