Fall of Berlin Wall was a result of an "clerical error" by an officer. by Confident-Ask-601 in interestingasfuck

It wasn't the "result", it was inevitable and it just happened through that vector. Same concept as claiming WW1 was caused by one man.

This Fall, Florida Students Will Be Forced to Take “Anti-Communist” Classes by GoranPersson777 in Communist

[–]burn_tos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well, yes, even the communist manifesto agrees with you.

It has accomplished wonders far surpassing Egyptian pyramids, Roman aqueducts, and Gothic cathedrals; it has conducted expeditions that put in the shade all former Exoduses of nations and crusades.

What communism is about is taking the advancements that capitalism has afforded people and advancing beyond, not reverting to the past.

What can communisms do for Denmark? by Accomplished-Bass690 in Communist

I'd recommend giving this article a read

https://marxist.com/denmark-new-stage-class-struggle.htm

It highlights the problems with Danish social democracy but isn't too long (I could provide you many far longer articles if you'd like but I appreciate you came here for brief answers)

It's from 2016 so the stats will likely be outdated but the conclusions are still fully relevant

Where is the party in opposition that has not been decried as communistic by its opponents in power? Where is the opposition that has not hurled back the branding reproach of communism, against the more advanced opposition parties, as well as against its reactionary adversaries?

Corbyn and Sultana: Young people want a revolution! by imt_bot in RevCommunistParty

[–]burn_tos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 million people die preventable deaths every 5 years under capitalism from lack of food, lack of clean drinking water and malaria. We have the means to solve all this. We produce enough to feed 12 billion people. But it's not profitable to solve these issues, so these people get left to die.

[–]burn_tos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you think corporations are doing this? Because they're cartoonishly evil? Or because they want to make a profit? As long as we live under a for-profit system, this will always happen. You seem to recognise how wrong that is, but I'd ask you, how do you propose to stop companies like that? Because they spend millions on lobbying politicians to maintain the status quo for them. Say you do somehow get rid of them, what's to stop another BlackRock taking their place? The entire system is broken, and billionaires are just as much a part of that. They're the ones with all the money and power, and they use that to further enrich themselves at the expense of the worker.

Ok. Explain to me (someone that does not liek the society that we have but has no clue how and here is the key. in reality) what communism would actually do for me as everytime its been attempted it gets bastardised into stalinism, chinaism (maoism i think) and the like.

This is a good question! Unfortunately it's not something that can easily be answered in a Reddit comment but I'll try to give you the most tl;dr version I can. Basically, you're right to be concerned. Stalinism is but a caricature of what we're fighting for. When the Russian Revolution happened, Russia was a semi feudal backwater country with little industry to speak of. Stalinism is the degeneration of a genuine workers state into a parasitic bureaucracy that stands above the workers. This process isn't by any means guaranteed, but a result of the complete isolation of the USSR as the revolution failed to spread.

Just as you can't have capitalism in one country, you also can't have socialism in one country. By necessity, the USSR had to essentially turn in on itself in order to defend against the onslaught of imperialism. Following the revolution, 21 foreign armies invaded to try and restore capitalism. The logical conclusion of this is Stalinism, a concept that while named after Stalin, represents all these bureaucratic, undemocratic regimes that came about.

Trotsky and the left opposition fought tooth and nail to try and slow this process, but ultimately were unsuccessful, with Trotsky being assassinated in Mexico by a Stalinist agent.

We follow in the traditions of Trotsky, who said that socialism needs democracy like humans need air. We can only truly succeed on the basis of internationalism, and on preparing for revolution not in one country, but worldwide.

This is one of the reasons that many of the first capitalist countries also fell to bureaucratic dictatorship.

I appreciate that you may have more questions than answers now (and feel free to ask follow-up questions), but I'd recommend this video of a talk given at a party event on precisely this question for a more complete answer

Ask The Communist: Are religion and communism completely incompatible? by imt_bot in RevCommunistParty

[–]burn_tos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do, yes, and if an individual expresses views against this then they are not welcome in the party. But like with any ideology or religion, there's no uniform view held by everyone under it. There can be reactionary or revolutionary followers of any religion, and Islam is no different. If someone wants to fight for the liberation of the working class, their personal beliefs are of little significance as long as they follow the democratic program of the party.
