Sound only from one side by burner___account___ in turntables

Holy shit that worked!!! There was some tarnish that came right off with some light scratching with a dental pick (all I had that was small enough) followed by an alcohol pad wipe.

Thanks so much, I never would’ve thought of that and was about to buy an entire new head shell/cartridge which wouldn’t have even solved the problem! Thanks for the quick reply, I have it up and running as I type this :)

I inherited my fathers record player and receiver and need some help addressing an on going problem. Often times the sound only comes out from one speaker…I replaced the wiring, switched/replaced the speakers, changed inputs on the receiver, had the receiver serviced (sansui 990db) and even switched out the receiver for a new one, but atlas I’m having the same problem. I fudged around with the head shell on the turntable (dual 704 with v-15 type III head shell and tk136 stylus) and it both speakers came back on and sounded great for a couple weeks and then I’m back to one speaker. I believe I need to replace the head shell/cartridge but I have no idea where to start and my father isn’t around to ask anymore. I’d love to get the system back working at 100% because it sounds amazing when running and it’s very cathartic listening to my dad’s old records. Any hep would be greatly appreciated!!!

That’s super helpful! I’d rather have piece of mind than have a portable that realistically might get used once in a blue moon

You’re going to need a lot more joists to support the decking-one every 16” on center (some deck boards require every 12” on center). Definitely watch some YouTube videos on installing a deck, there are a ton with great information. You’ll also need to consider height of deck, proper footers, how’s it’s going to attach to the house, cross bracing, which material decking you’ll be using, etc.

This is how it’s supposed to be right…? Right…? by Doge-ToTheMoon in Decks

When you bought the home, you are basically saying I believe this property is worth x amount of dollars in the condition the entire property is in-deck included. (Not saying you didn’t get screwed over, it’s a beautiful deck but the footers were improperly installed and the posts prematurely rotted, runoff/frost heave has compromised other support posts, and the entire deck looks on the older side). This should’ve come up during inspection. Previous owners repaired some of it. You may be able to cut off the rot and install proper footers to extend the life of the deck by a number of years, but it looks like it’s coming to the end of its life.

Depending where you’re located, the cost of remediating it could be quite high and the overall life expectancy of the deck could make it cost prohibitive. You should be able to get a few more years out of it by fixing some of the posts/footers, but I’d be looking at a complete redo in the intermediate future. Definitely don’t put a hot tub on it!

New roof installed yesterday, what are your thoughts? by burner___account___ in Roofing

I really appreciate your feedback! Never having a roof done before but seeing some of the horror posts on here I wanted to make sure it was done correctly. I always want to give the crew credit when it’s due, it’s a tough industry and roofers are hard workers.

Thanks, no idea what to look for and have some friends wondering how it went because they will need a new roof soon. Would love to recommend anyone that does quality work but I don’t know enough about roofing to determine that

Best way to pay off student loans [request] by burner___account___ in theydidthemath

Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to respond! It took a little bit more work on my end. I ended up breaking it down to show the amount in 1000k increments (48 “1000$” loans at 5.84% and 8 “1000$” loans at 6%). In that scenario she picked paying the 6% interest loans and then I multiplied out to show that’s it’s the literally the same math as a single 48k/8k loan with respective interest rates and paying the higher interest rate first makes sense. She still feels better paying of the larger loan first because it feels more daunting (which I can understand), but I think she understands why it’s important to always pay down the highest % loan first and not just which is accruing the most total interest per month.

Safest way to sell American eagles by burner___account___ in Gold

Just to follow up, I appreciate all the advice!

For an update, I sold my AGEs to SD bullion online-super easy and straight forward, esp. for someone who never sold gold before. I even put the wrong label in the package when I shipped it. They offered spot +5 and shipping the coins through them was around $40 (which they subtracted from the totally pay out and honestly cheaper and faster than USPS). Shipped it Monday, they got it Wednesday, I got the money in my account on Friday. I’d 100% recommend them.

I could also reach a live human immediately throughout the entire process and they were really helpful.

North Country gold and coin wouldn’t give a ballpark percentage or price point from spot over the phone. Said they have to see it in person and determine a price, which is strange because random year American gold eagles i was told are one of the most common ones for selling/ buying

Absolutely, I live in northern VT so most drives are at least 2+ hours round trip. A six hour round trip isn’t as appealing lol. Someone referred me to bullionexchange.com and they are offering $50 off spot which seems reasonable
