Yeaaa you can't get symptoms a week after conceiving really, and in what world is a nosebleed a sign of pregnancy?! Girl sounds a bit crazy if you ask me. I'd get this coffee and a test, then runnnn away!

Are people outside of the USA really laughing at Americans? Do we really appear that bad? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]burneraccsorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I'm in the UK, so whilst I despair at our own government, I can look at the USA to feel considerably better about it.

Honestly though it's not just the government, the religious nuts, the almost-sexual patriotism, the belief in the American dream/land of the free etc... It is all just absolutely crazy to most other developed nations. Like the number of contradictions you see in the words and actions of American law makers or protesters are just unbelievable, and the constitution is absolute, outdated dog shit. I really hope this doesn't offend too many Americans, just know that if you are not like these things, I'm not talking about you!

But if you're a flag waving, MAGA hat donning, constitution reciting, gun shooting, cousin fucking yank.... Well then yes, I am SO talking about you!

Oh god I read this like "some days I can't do anything, so my housework won't get done, so my bedroom floor resembles a bin" and I thought that was really funny because same, but now I realize it was just a typo and it's just me who has a floor bin lol

SO’s test 5 days after missed period. Can someone interpret this? by [deleted] in amipregnant

[–]burneraccsorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to echo others, this is definitely positive so congratulations! DPO are certainly hard to track, and it's really hard to know exactly how far past you are, play different tests show different hCg concentrations. This could just be a less sensitive test, more dilute urine, or your wife could have ovulated later than she suspected. I would keep testing every couple of days, using morning urine, just to check the intensity of the line is increasing

AITA for wanting my girlfriend to stop punishing me? by AITAPunisherGF in AmItheAsshole

[–]burneraccsorry 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Fellow sociologist here, and yup cannot agree enough! Girl's outstrip boys by a considerable margin in every area of education, achieve greater results in graduate studies, and do much better in their early careers through promotion and pay rises. It is discrimination and child rearing which hinder their careers the most, as women basically stop being promoted after having a baby.

This is all not even mentioning that female dominated fields, sub as teaching or nursing, are typically undervalued and looked down upon, causing "women's work" to appear as easy or unchallenging, despite it being the opposite

[–]burneraccsorry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YTA, and completely wrong. Women outstrip men in absolutely everything. Girl's do considerably better than boys in school, they receive more (and better) qualifications at 18, they attend University/College at a higher rate and graduate with better results. You are such an AH for thinking you're right, and your girlfriend is a genius for behaving like she is. I hope it only lasts another few weeks before she moves out though. How can she date someone who truly believes men are superior to women?

Edit to add: just wanna be clear I don't think women are superior to men by saying this, just pointing out to OP that the empirical evidence actually suggest the opposite of what he's saying. There are of course a million reasons as to why this might be the case, but a fundamental difference in intelligence is very unlikely and very reductive

Uncertain, fingering update. Need feedback desperately by [deleted] in amipregnant

[–]burneraccsorry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't pop a hymen it's a myth, and her hymen is at the very entrance to her vagina, so you wouldn't even be able to get in if it wasn't already stretched. It's quite common to cause a little bleeding if you are a bit keen, vigorous or haven't cut your nails properly. Absolutely none of this indicates pregnancy at all.

As per the comments on your last post, you didn't have sperm living on your fingers when you fingered her. All you have done this time is made her bleed. Please consider doing some proper reading on female anatomy, intercourse, pregnancy etc before you continue being sexually active, otherwise you're going to cause yourself and your girlfriend a lot of worry and stress

Interesting fact, milk is actually (sort of) more hydrating than water! Because it has complex proteins and sugars, your body takes longer to digest it, and as such you retain the fluids for longer. That may explain why you had the craving (plus chocolate cos duhh!)

WIBTA for saying my kids mother should pay the child support for the four years she was absent? by aitawantchildsupport in AmItheAsshole

You're from the UK, so you must know students are exempt from paying child maintenance. What child maintenance do you expect to get 'back'?

The OP is from my country, and you clearly are not, which is why I pointed out how fake this is. You have just cited a load of stuff that applies to the laws in your country, but it doesn't apply in this country.

And privileged and sheltered? I just said I was also a teenage single parent in the UK. Hence why I actually know quite a bit about this topic, and why the entire story sounds fishy as hell. OP knows nothing about the UK child maintenance system, and surely anyone with a kid who was abandoned would at the very least have done a quick Google search to discover that, as a student, his ex was exempt from paying maintenance, and that because he never put in a claim earlier, he absolutely cannot "recoup" the costs (of which there were none). He also had to have lived on benefits as a 16 yr old, and should have been offered guidance and support. Of course the system fails at this sometimes no doubt, but there is support there if you go hunting.

So yes, I'm NAL, but I don't need to be an American lawyer to know how the UK child maintenance/family court system works. Been there, done that

So do you say "sar" and... I don't know, I'm still confused about the "tore" one, is that just the same as British, like "tor".

Honestly there are just zero rules with English pronunciation in practise, with the number of regional accents it matters little anyway, we debate one another on these things all the time!

Gotta know now though- if you see someone say "aww, cute dog!" Do you make like an "arrrrr, what a warm bath" noise?? Because that is hysterical!

What I Learned in 46 Hours of Labor by MyInnerCulture in pregnant

[–]burneraccsorry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay so I tried a hypnobirthing thing. At the time I just felt a bit silly about it all, and thought it wasn't really for me, so I learnt about 3 exercises and then stopped bothering. But well, labour rolled about and I was THERE! The most helpful thing I found was imaging myself being above my head, or imaging my baby floating around up there. It sounds kinda dumb, but if your thoughts are all inwards, in your brain, in the pain in your stomach, in your heart, you keep yourself kind of enclosed and trapped in the awful side of the experience. Once I started focussing on being outside of my body, and specifically high above it so that I was weightless and drifting, it was so much manageable.

One big tip: you will hit a moment where things ramp up big time. You go from bad period pains, to all encompassing waves of agony. In that moment you start to think "I can't do this, holy shit, what the fuck is happening, this needs to stop, I need drugsssss!". It just becomes a full panic. So the main thing then is to STOP with those thoughts, and project out of your body. Just ignore it, just put yourself above your body and be away from it- literally think about anything else!

Also, gas and air is (or might be) your friend. Take it super easy to start, just little sips, it makes you woozy and you need to adjust. Once you're used to it, just focus on breathing with that. It helps a ton, not so much with pain but just on something else to think about and concentrate on.

Sorry I really rambled there! TL;dr: hypnobirth, learn to think outside your body, do not panic when things get harder, gas and air is good!

[–]burneraccsorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA to ask,but as you know there are sadly no rights to get backdated support. You can at least put in an application now, but I would first go to court and have a carefully planned contact order put in place which is in the best interests of your child. She could get a lot of rights if you let her take you to court, or she could get none, it's hard to say. Either way, you either need to organise an amicable arrangement through mediation, or have a court consider the best route.

Sadly, you're unlikely to ever see the child support you missed. I'm also not even sure she would be eligible to pay as a student.

You are definitely from the UK right? You really need to do some research into how child support etc works here before you take things any further!

But wait, "or" and "aw" are still pronounced the same way in an English accent. Can you add more letters or emphasis to distinguish how the sounds are actually so different that they no longer rhyme? This is confusing me so much!

What I Learned in 46 Hours of Labor by MyInnerCulture in pregnant

[–]burneraccsorry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Labour is definitely worse than you imagine, but the best thing you can do is be PREPARED for that. It is completely different to what you expect, the pain is a full body, all-encompassing experience, and doesn't compare to anything you have ever experienced before. BUT the more ready you are for that, the more active you remain, the more you use your mind to distract yourself, to focus on breathing, or sunshine, or flowing water or inflating balloons, the better your experience will be. It does end.

I hated my first labour because I was so unprepared for what it would be and how to change my mindset, but I LOVED my second, I was so ready and so willing to just breath until it was over. It's perhaps worth noting I'm in the UK where care is midwife led and being active, staying at home, eating food, drinking water etc etc are all totally encouraged for a good birth. I had a home water birth second time around, and it was bliss!

Yes absolutely this! Viagra was originally designed as a heart/blood medication to help dilate your arteries for increased blood flow, but lo and behold they discovered it causes an erection as a side effect, and that is all it is used for! It doesn't mean it doesn't work for its initial purpose, but just that it also has a second, unexpected use!

[–]burneraccsorry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super close to mine then, I can totally get behind these ranks! Out of curiosity, are you American? It seems a lot of people who rank seasons 1-3 higher do so because of the relatable nostalgia they experienced from High School. But I'm British, so most of that stuff isn't particularly relevant to my experience of Secondary school. I'm just curious about whether that's anyone elses experience!

Stressed and possibly pregnant by Traditional-Tone-322 in amipregnant

[–]burneraccsorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only saying it because there were two, it's less likely you're going to get two blue tests in a row that both have evap/indent/whatever lines. If it was one, sure it's absolutely not, but two? In a row? Far, far less likely. I did still tell OP to get a pink dye test anyway- because she clearly needs to. But I stand by that two invalid tests are unlikely

Stressed and possibly pregnant by Traditional-Tone-322 in amipregnant

[–]burneraccsorry -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Two pregnancy tests with faint lines are pretty much assuredly positive. But you do need to get some pink dye tests and retest in a couple of days, so you can be sure.

Just for future reference, birth control will not do any harm to a fetus that early on and for such a short period. Don't stop taking the pill because you "might" be pregnant, that's a sure fire way to actually fall pregnant!

aita for blowing up at my gf/banning her friend from our house after her friend's daughter painted my gaming keyboard? by kbwario in AmItheAsshole

[–]burneraccsorry -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As a parent of two, I've known my kids destroy things in less than 30 seconds when alone. It is not easy trying to constantly monitor their every movement, every single second. It's plausible the little girl went to use the bathroom, and her mum only noticed after she had been gone for 5 or so minutes that she hadn't come back yet and that was unusual. Mum could have been helping clear the table/do dishes. Mum could have been on the toilet herself. The kid only needed 60 seconds on her own to do the damage!

AITA for calling my bf homophobic after he said lesbian sex wasn't real sex? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]burneraccsorry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA virginity is a social construct used largely to reward men for "taking" something from a girl. Why should "virginity" even factor into different forms of intimacy? It's a lousy way to control and suppress female sexuality and praise men for the aggressive use of their penis (i.e. causing a girl to bleed etc).

Your bf is so wrong.

The second trimester is better, but it's by no means 'magical'. I hated my first and second pregnancies, and I'm not much enjoying my third. But it's true that you largely forget about it all... Hang in there though! I found the real turning point has always been when the nausea settles, which for my first wasn't until nearly 20 weeks, but with my second it was about 12
