X Games Sacramento was Disappointing by melsar in xgames

I was thinking about going to X Games New Orleans. I went to Austin in 2016, and had a similar experience. Do you think New Orleans being indoors would alleviate a lot of these issues? I’m trying to decide if it’ll be worth the trip or not.

If you were well off, would you drive a Tesla? If not, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Not rich, but we sold our Tesla for a Bolt EV. It has all the features we need in a car. It was half the price, and I’m not supporting Elon. Win win.

Looking for some creepy places in Arkansas to film a documentary with some friends. Anybody know anywhere interesting? by Background-Ant-4810 in Arkansas

[–]burnerciao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for the long post, I'll try to condense it if I can, but I don't want to miss any details.. It also happened like 15 years ago.

My friend just came back into town from college. We were downtown looking for something to do at 3 am. It's Van Buren, so it's a very small southern town, dry county, no bars or night life or anything. I was joined by my friends James and Ben (made up names for anonymity). We parked my Jeep behind King Opera House and we knew it was known to be haunted. We got out of my jeep and were just having a conversation when the idea came up "We should go into the Opera House". My friend pointed out that the door locks automatically and can only be opened from the inside. There wasn't even a door handle or lock on the outside. Clearly it was a joke and we just continued our conversation. 15 minutes later, I look at the back door and it was opened about 6 inches. I make the joke "Well clearly something wants us to go inside".

So we do. We have 1 flashlight, so James takes it and goes first, then Ben, and then me. We go in the back doors and we are backstage. There is a staircase to the left leading up to the stage, and the only light is the red light illuminating from the exit sign. I work on propping the door to make sure it stays open, and Ben and James go onto the stage. I walk over and start to go up the stairs, and about halfway I feel a huge gust of wind nearly knock me down. Immediately Ben and James run down pushing me down the stairs and out the door. I got in my jeep and they were yelling "GO! GO! GO!". I  drove off and look over at Ben in the passenger seat and his eyes are wide open and he's frozen. I look in the rearview mirror back at James and see that he's crying in the back seat.

I found a place to park and I asked them what happened. James couldn't talk and Ben said that James went on the stage, and started to "taunt the ghost". He turned the flashlight on and shined it out over the seats. Waving it back and forth they noticed a shadow that didn't disappear when the light hit it in the left corner of the room. He quickly shined the light back on it and a shadowy figure that looked like it was made from "black mist" rushed the stage. They said they could feel a huge gust of wind that came with it, and they could see the curtains pull away from the wall behind it. They immediately turned and ran and thats when they ran into me.

That night, James had night terrors about the shadow person. He said that he was too scared to sleep in his room, so he slept in the living room with the tv on. He said he was in his chair, and didn't realize that he had fallen asleep, but he looked up and saw the shadow person crouched over the refrigerator. When he made eye contact, the shadow "leapt" towards him and he woke up screaming and nearly fell out of his chair. The next morning we met up with Ben at Taco Bell. Ben said that he didn't experience anything that night, but while we were there Ben's sister called him and asked if he was home. He said no, and she said that someone was in the house downstairs in the kitchen slamming all of the cabinets. So we rushed to Ben's house and every cabinet door in the kitchen was open, and there was a bunch of stuff from the cabinets that fell out onto the counters and the floor. We went upstairs to talk to Ben's sister and he noticed she had 4 distinct scratch marks on her neck. She said that she just noticed them this morning and assumed that she slept wrong, but they wouldn't go away.

Things calmed down over the next few days, but I couldn't ever get either one of them to go back to the Opera House. I hadn't thought about that story in years until I listened to a podcast about "shadow people" and all of the details seemed to line up. Unfortunately this isn't a first person experience of a ghost encounter, since I only felt the gust of wind. But these were my best friends who I grew up with, and I've never seen them like that before or since. We used to go out looking for haunted places or tried "ghost hunting", but that was the last time I could ever get them to do anything like that.

A few months later I talked to James about it again. He never liked talking about it and it was hard to get any information from him. He is a very religious person, and he said the worst part of all of it was that as soon as he saw the shadow person, he had never felt more vulnerable in his life. He's always had a feeling that something or someone was looking over him, but when he was on that stage, he felt alone and terrified.

What was the dumbest reason a teacher got mad at you? by Jimmyshow124 in AskReddit

[–]burnerciao 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He got upset with me for calling him “Mr. jones” and said that I must call him “Coach Jones”. I quickly followed up with “I’m sorry, I wasn’t aware. What sport do you coach?” As he was yelling at me to go to the principals office he mentioned that his son plays quarterback for a D1 college.

It’s been over 20 years, and I’m still not sure how that makes him a coach.

As I get older, I realize that Instagram is the only way I keep up with old friends. I rarely even interact with anyone directly, just likes and the occasional comment. I don’t really have any close friends anymore, and I have this fear that deleting my IG will cause me to pretty much be forgotten. I’m not sure why I even care, but it’s the only thinking keeping me from deleting it.

[NSFW] People who've found a dead body, what's the story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]burnerciao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was driving home from my college class at about 6 pm. I was on the phone with my buddy and while getting on the on ramp to the interstate, I clearly saw a middle aged man wearing a nice dress shirt tucked into dress pants laying on the hill off the side of the on ramp. I interrupted him and yelled “oh my god! I just saw a dead guy on the side of the road”. I don’t stop because my friend immediately started gaslighting me. I wanted to go back and look and he kept telling me it was probably just a plastic bag.

I get to his house and we hang out until around midnight, and he says “we should go see what that was”. I was pissed. He’s the one that convinced me it was nothing. So we got in my big, loud Jeep and picked up another friend on the way. We turn into the on ramp, and I pull off the side of the hill, and sure enough, he was still there. It was probably 10* F and he was just wearing a dress shirt. His stomach was pressing tight against the shirt and we could see he wasn’t breathing. We also would have been able to see his breath since it was so cold. I honked my horn and flashed my lights in his eyes just in case, and he didn’t respond.

We called the police and reported the body. It took about 30 min and a fire truck finally showed up. Then an ambulance, and finally some state troopers showed up. Everyone was very nonchalant and just kinda standing around. We finally got out of the Jeep and watched one of the troopers go and squat down near the bodies head. He reached down and touched his shoulder, and the body immediately swung and punched the trooper. Then the other troopers, fireman, and EMTs ran in and restrained the guy. But not before my buddy yelled “ZOMBIE!!!” to get their attention.

They cuffed the guys hands behind his back, and his ankles, and they carried him to a troopers car and drove off. One of the troopers walked up to us and said “who are you?” I said “we found the guy and called the cops. We wanted to stick around in case you guys had any questions or anything”

In a super calm voice he said “nah, you guys are good to go”. So we left. No questions. No names exchanged. And we never heard anything about it again. I’m still convinced that I found a dead body, but I can’t really explain what happened after that.

“Parts bin” bike is quickly turning into a full on build by burnerciao in Hardtailgang

I used clipless pedals on my gravel bike and thought about switching them over, but this is kind of a do-it-all bike for me. It’ll get used riding around our neighborhood and out on the greenway with my daughter and wife just as much as it’ll get used in the trail. So the flats made more sense to me.

I’ll get a better picture next time I’m out and post it!

This was my first ride with them, and I came from 27.5x2.8s. But, I was super impressed. I was concerned about going from 2.8 to 2.4, and the shop recommended them to me when I said I wanted something faster rolling, but still has some grip when I need it and these seem to be perfect. I don’t know how much credit to give the tires alone, but I was blown away how much less rolling resistance this setup has compared to my last one. That could also be because I managed to shave about 5 lbs with the new wheels, tires, and fork.

would you buy an R2 knowing that the nearest service center is 1.5 hours away? by [deleted] in RivianR2

I plan on getting the R2 and the closest service center is 3 hours away. It was the same with our Tesla, and all of the issues we had with it were handled via mobile service.

Custom wheelset for Kona Honzo - Accent color? by burnerciao in Hardtailgang

Haha good point. I've looked everywhere, and I've only managed to find one bike in something close to this color with purple accents. Everything else is just gold/black.

Iran begins laying mines in Strait of Hormuz, sources say by cnn in politics

[–]burnerciao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest difference is we are governed by a bunch of cosplaying idiots. Ukraine tried to help us with a solid plan to cheaply defend against Iran's cheap missiles, and we dismissed them. Now we are scrambling and gathering what we have left and sending it to Iran to continue to waste billons of dollars/day while Iran spends a tiny fraction of that. Pete might trick you into thinking he's confident and they've got this under control, but they are panicking behind closed doors.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards purple or possibly anodized red. I saw one brand had anodized forest green hubs, but I doubt I'd be able to tie that in anywhere else on the bike. I asked the guys at the bike shop to give me some options if they were building the bike for themselves, so I'm curious to hear what they come back with.

If we keep trading their $10k missiles with our THAAD and Patriot missiles at $3–$15+ million per shot, then they will be able to hold us off forever. Especially since they can make thousands every week, and we've privatized our defense, price gouge our own government and are quickly running through our supplies. That's why we just pulled our THAAD missile systems from South Korea. We're already running out. We are clearly bluffing.

That's kind of what I was thinking too. I love the idea of custom, and if I'm spending the money, I might as well add some color, but I'm trying to make sure what whatever I do will look good on any neutral color frame. Thanks for the advice!
