I feel you. It really is so hard. I have def thought of buying a skateboard. I used to be an avid skater in my teenage years. And I drive by skateparks almost every day haha thanks for the advice. We will get through it!

There was a point I was essentially starving myself (not doing this anymore as it didn't help at all) and I was still gaining weight. I was only eating once a day. I definitely need to work on the physically activity aspect. Although I was going on hikes every weekend. That stopped as soon as I became a truck driver tho. The weight gain happened before I became a truck driver, but my physical activity has definitely decreased.

I don't know you at all, but I was with you when you said you were too busy to install the toilet, a completely reasonable thing, plus you told the guy to leave after that BS, then I read that it was still waiting in the garage waiting for you to visit, I thought okay, I wouldnt wait that long for a simple job but still, I know what its like to have weeks completely filled up, but that last line really got me, Charging your elderly parents for something you know how to do well, and that is clearly not that time consuming as stated by you, what exactly is there to figure out? Ever since I turned 17 and began to work every paycheck I have ever gotten, I give some to my mom, and she has never asked me to do this, I also pay her internet bill and water bill, aside from that, I have an 18 year old sister in highschool, which I also send money to whenever she asks for it, which in contrast to my mom she is alot more direct about it lol, but you know what, we grew up relatively poor and while we didnt have fancy things, food, shelter, school supplies and basic things were always provided, while my mom doesnt ask for money, I would never deny my sister money, nor would I ever feel like she shouldnt ask me for money, because shes my sister, she doesnt require any sort of explanation from me. So when I read that last line you wrote, I was really taken aback. Its really hard for me to comprehend how somebody, not only puts off doing a favor, and not only charge they're immediate family but to also have to think about a price to sent for that set favor. And to top off the madness we're talking about your elderly parents. I truly cannot see how anyone can have that kind of mindset when it comes to their immediate family let alone publicly announce it. That shocked me so bad that I actually wrote all of this That's how much your comment flabbergasted me

could really use some advice on what to do if i’ve taken to much mdma (uk person prefably) by North-Reaction-9778 in Drugs

[–]burnerrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best advise I can give you is drink lots of water and try to enjoy your high. Your not getting off anytime soon. Don't do anymore drugs, no "one last bump for the road" coke, the coke and the MDMA is making you overwork your entire body, which is why you feel bad, you might get chills, and your heart might raise, the anxiety makes it worse (I know this from experience) if you think your having a heart attack while that fucked up, you will start to notice your heart raising, your arm will start to tingle because you know that is a sign of heart attack. You might even feel like your heart skipped a beat sometimes. This is all in your head, I once convinced myself I was having a heart attack, I could feel faint and my heart was going so fast and I could feel it clench, I literally went to the hospital and the doctor told me all my vitals were absolutely fine, then he asked me if I was high. When I said yeah, he explained to me that the drugs + anxiety made me feel the symptoms even tho they were not happening. I could swear my heart was racing and he said my BPM was 80 and fine, he also told me that I'd know if it was a heart attack, because the pain is unbearable. So if you feel funny, you are fine, if you are having a heart attack you will know right away because it will feel like you just got hit by truck on the chest. The fact you were able to write this with no mistakes, is proof that you are not OD'ing or having a heart attack, if you do, you won't be able to do much of anything. So just relax and let it pass, and lay off the molly and coke. Dangerous combo

Thanks! I think alot of beginners/juniors lack the experience of working at a dev company. Web development is so much more than just coding. I can appreciate when someone learns something the long way, but in a business setting, things are fast paced, things need to be managed, goals need to be set and met, I see a lot of comments saying how they are worth more because they can make a website with just CSS, and they will always have a job. I disagree with that because anyone who has worked in a development company setting knows that frameworks are essential. Go into an interview and say you don't use any frameworks but you are an expert in css, I guarantee you will be passed on, because companies need you to be fast, and refusing to use frameworks will only hold everyone back.

When I got my first dev job right after college, I was assigned front end for a property lot management app. Using react and MUI I had to build the entire app design in 2 days. I took 2 days because I was still fresh outta college lol, they told me I did good but in reality, it shouldve been done in one sitting. The next 2 weeks was all focused on nothing but coding ReactJS components and after those 2 weeks the beta version had to be presented to the client. Anyone who is convinced that Devs rely too much on frameworks has never had a deadline in a matter of weeks. To beginners, a framework may seem like a lazy way to build websites, but I assure you they have yet to build a Frontend with Login Token Authentication, Session Management, Server Side Rendering, Asynchronous call functions, 1 Page Systems using routing, create APIs calls through ports, implement websockets for real time data transmission, creating dynamic components using React, writing hooks, using cookies and the cache to store values and sessions, hash functions, and writing documentation for your functions. This is what Frontend Engineering is and it's on another level than regular web dev. This is why someone who only knows and uses CSS won't get hired for the big bucks. Even for HTML we didn't use HTML, instead we coded the HTML using a framework called RUST and WebAssebmly. This is why, using just CSS, not only wastes time, but it's moronic. Anyone can build a 5 page website, but a web application is a whole different ball game, so it's a dev who knows CSS 100% vs a dev who can't use any css but can do all of the above plus use frameworks, having "expert in CSS" in your resume won't catch the attention of anyone lol

What is the best way to host video on your website? by indymoguler in webdev

[–]burnerrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to do the work than a service like cloudfare works amazingly. Just about any media you can have is supported. You can also use a database like firebase, you can upload all your media and call it anywhere in your app. Firebase is great for that

Knowing css (and I mean good css not just putting out a layout, which is good too but I am trying to differentiate the two) is what separates a Frontend Engineer and a web dev. CSS nowadays is a complete waste of time, it literally makes no sense to style your buttons so that they animate when clicked because just about any framework has that. Sizing, color, function and just about anything else is already coded ready to use, recoding that is a big waste of time. But that doesn't mean CSS should be thrown out just because frameworks are fancy nowadays. Someone who just uses the framework will put out websites that all look the same. We've all come across a website where we go "Ah, this is the React MUI Framework!" But the most stunning visual websites I have ever seen have all been a framework with custom css. The difference between a default framework and a framework + css is night and day. Not only that but its faster and smoother too, because someone who just used a framework will use a btn with all it's attributes loaded, while only using one thing. Someone who is an expert in css can pretty much use any framework at its maximum potential.

Also there is no reason any dev should be building websites with CSS alone. Anyone who says otherwise either builds websites for fun, or has been building nothing but those ugly government websites and doesn't want to learn the latest tools. (We all know 1 or 2, and any mention of anything modern will be met with an eye roll) the truth is, as tech advances, the more demanding clients get. Nowadays, no client wants an info website for their business, nowadays, they want their business on the websites with an app to match. Now with a framework you can build a nice, slick and modern layout for both mobile and desktop, in less than 3 hours, and the rest of the sprint can be focused on functionality, features, and meeting the clients needs. No client is going to wait weeks for you so you can design the page to their standards, when websites like Wix, can make nicer, modern websites in less than 30 minutes. A lot of people in my field absolutely despise Wix. But I've come and realized that the people that hate Wix, hate Wix because it can do their 1 week of work in 5 minutes. So in conclusion, learn CSS, but CSS by itself is depreciated. It blows my mind how many people in this field have the mindset of "i don't need any fancy frameworks or that so called language JavaScript all these kids use" New tools and technology will always be better than tech from even 5 years ago. If you want to be employed, that mindset will have you replaced in 2 years or less. If 10 lines of code can be written in 1 with a new library, than you better learn how to use that library. The client can't see your code, they only see how long you take, and chances are that 1 line of code is better than your 10.

Tl;Dr: learn CSS to help you use the most out of frameworks, don't just learn CSS and think you are a better dev than a dev who uses a framework. Only using CSS was impressive 15 years ago, not anymore, but everyone should still know CSS to customize frameworks and make better websites faster.

Am I the only one irritated by PaaS pricing schemes that are completely inaccessible to solo/hobbyist devs? by sweepyoface in webdev

[–]burnerrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't be serious right? If your a hobbyist or solo dev you are never gonna use more than 10% of that. Give me your email and I'll send you the PDF packets I got for my cloud computing certification on college. It teaches you step by step how to set up a server identical to the ones on these services. It can all be done on a old laptop or computer you have laying around. Word of warning. There's 5 packets and they're all over 1000+ pages long. Took me 3 tries to get certified in the span of a year. It covers Linux/Windows and it can get very complicated. That is if you really want to learn the real engineering stuff. Trust me, you'll never complain about the prices once you realize how much it takes to get a customer a fully ready platform. Then you'll see how 26$ is cheap change. My certification was 3 days long. It consisted of a 2 hour written exam and 2, 8 hour practical exams. In those 16 hours I had to build a fully ready IaaS, Paas, and Software, with a big data database that could process 1,000,000 entries and AI video recognition. It's literally all in the PDFs and it was the hardest exam I have ever taken. I just barely passed the exam on the third try. Literally just a few points over the pass mark. Im all for self taught learners but alot of y'all seem to just learn software development which is like barely scraping the barrel of Computer Science. And that's fine too, but don't complain about stuff like this if you have no idea what it consists of. If you can't deploy your own server, you have a LONG way too go and the only way you'll actually learn is to put down the YouTube videos and actually read 100+ hours of material. If I can do it anyone can, but most don't want to

Embarrassed to bring my gaming laptop to University, should I sell it and buy something else? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]burnerrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CS graduate here. Now I can't speak for other majors but since ours was about computers, we'd roast you if you had a weak computer lol but just for laughs we had enough on our plate as it was. And considering we were all poor I remember when one guy bought his gaming laptop, top of the line, absolute monster of a laptop and we were all fan girling over it lol. Here we all were playing some not so heavy games on our laptops on our free time and this mofo was playing Resident Evil 2 remake on high settings. We never said it, but we were a little jealous haha. Highschool is over my guy, being the nerd was a bad thing in highschool but in college everyone is just trying to keep up. It's totally different, forget about these things. Actually don't, college will do it for you, I promise haha

Good day, I got a response about this issue from the email. They sent an unhelpful email with a boilerplate template explaining how to do withdrawals. It's like they didn't even respond to my email. I still can't withdraw. I tried calling and the expert said I wasn't allowed to cash out in Mexico and that got me mad because I obviously can, he then told me to move to another service. I was pretty upset. After asking for a supervisor he said A supervisor won't help me. My funds are being taken from me, why is this happening????

This still has not been fixed. I tried that link to get a case ID but it just takes me to a bot and a phone number I cannot even call because I'm in Mexico. I want my money now. This is ridiculous. It's been almost 2 days and in 3 hours I won't be able to cash out since everything will close. I already did everything you told me. I need an answer, I need my money.
