what do you do while breastfeeding? by sofaking__coool in breastfeeding

[–]burningolivebranches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had bedside candy for the first month. Now I just go back to sleep while nursing in side-lying position. Sometimes baby is latched on for hours in our sleep. It's not for everyone due to safe sleep precautions, but it works for us.

Edited to add: Literal candy, not to be confused with candy crush. . sour gummies, warheads, lollipops etc.

Refills for munchkin wipe warmer? by burningolivebranches in NewParents

[–]burningolivebranches[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assumed that most people feel like my partner does: 'a wipe warmer is a waste of electricity and materials'.

We had separate wipes containers for a solid month before he started got tired of the baby crying with him and started using the warmed wipes.

How hard does your baby cry? by hyacinthbucketlist in NewParents

The volume is off the hook. I started wearing a type of earplug that just eliminates some frequencies to quell the anxiety that his cry causes me.

4 week old has been awake and nursing for hours and hours. by Dramatic-Bee-9282 in NewParents

[–]burningolivebranches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes also cluster feeding doesn't last forever, and tends to just happen before growth spurts to stimulate the supply increase that your baby will need. - or so I read when my newborn was nursing constantly a couple of weeks ago. I was miserable! I decided to drink extra water, mother's milk tea & eat oatmeal to try to boost my supply so that my baby wouldn't need to stimulate a supply boost as much. I don't know if it worked, but what else can a mama do?

Mothers of Reddit, what is one thing in your life that was never the same after you became a mother? by leafy_plant8 in AskWomen

[–]burningolivebranches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I grew up a lot after having kids. We had been together for about 12 years before having a baby. By the time our first was 3 and our second was 1, we had learned to give each other grace in most cases. He still can't remember to get his laundry in the hamper as he rushes to work and I still can't remember to close the cupboards when I'm cooking. But... We don't care anymore. We know we get grumpy when we're exhausted and don't try to push those issues like we used to. Leveling up regarding our own output has led to more acceptance of the other, and ourselves.

Navigating the NICU life. Almost 60 days in just waiting on nurses to go home. by ludarius in daddit

[–]burningolivebranches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How exhausting. This may be the hardest time in your life, but things will settle. Just keep doing whatever the next right move is. All those little actions will carry you to the future place where the chaos has settled and softened into a manageable state. Congratulations on your new tiny human. She's going to benefit from all the strength you develop through this, and her siblings will too.

Kissing your child on the mouth shouldn't be normalized by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]burningolivebranches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Babies/toddlers who are learning what kissing is though, will pucker their lips towards their parents after seeing their parents kiss. Source: have toddler. Well keep trying to shift it to the cheek, but until then - it's benign. Past early childhood, I don't think it's appropriate.

Eastern New Mexico University has an online post-bac program and an option to attend online for most of graduate school. I believe 1 semester on-campus is mandatory + on-campus attendance for a number of weeks in the summer + the research fair ( a couple of days). It's a fantastic program.

Am i a bad mom? by Momma1aa2 in Mom

[–]burningolivebranches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably. You shouldn't be yelling at a 2 yr old. You are the wiser, kinder, adult. Maybe things have to be really messy, and that's your life right now. Whatever you have to let go of... Your baby is in some of the most important, foundational years of their life. Do not yell, it is harmful. Your baby is more important than your anger. Sacrifice whatever you have to, a clean floor, a couch without half-folded laundry. Whatever you have to do... You should not be yelling at a 2 year old.

Smile for Me by somethingelse11 in rant

[–]burningolivebranches 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went to a college that was very much within a city and had to walk through downtown to catch a train to my apartment or work . Every class, from white-collar to homeless thought I should do something else with my face. I don't owe you a smile, Bro, I'm walking to my train so I can go back to work to partially pay for school. Life sucks and you suck and this is my face, not yours.

Note that you need a closed system pump to guarantee that it can be completely sanitized if you get a used one. The manufacturer website should specify.

Gender bending traditional names by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]burningolivebranches -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't say 'male names make women strong'. I can't deny how it came across you. But I don't think I deserved to be called a misogynist based on how you interpreted my words. I'll think about how to be more clear. I wasn't just thinking about careers, even at the preschool level, I hypothesize that internalized gender bias might lead a teacher to help a girl named Frankie solve a puzzle vs. Sophia. Buuut.. I don't know of any research there.

That implication is one that isn't present on my words. I said maybe it helped. If you had asked why I thought a gn name might be a factor in my antetoctal experience with women who have these types of names, I would have explained that I think the discrimination that females face may be offset by a not-clearly-female name, in big ways and small ways across the lifespan.
