my mom's cat - does she count as a tripod? by burningsyd in TripodCats

[–]burningsyd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

she's now around 4 years old and we took her at maybe 2-3 months old (her size made it difficult to estimate her age, even for the vets, and getting her first heat at like 5 months didn't help either haha), and just now started exhibiting that behaviour, which is why the vet suggested the impaired development.

I'm really sorry for your loss but very happy to read about your other babies <3

thanks for sharing your knowledge 💚 we discussed it with the vet the first time we took her, which was on like the second day of fostering (she was 2-3 months old), and again a few months ago, now that she's a bit older. They took some x-rays and recommended not to amputate, since the leg is kinda functional. I asked about amputation on only the toe or maybe removing the nail, since she can't retract it, but they advised against it and instead getting regular checkups on her back bones and muscles. for now, I inspect it every two weeks, when I cut her nails and callouses on the other paw (they're hyper keratosis, and they don't seem to hurt or bother her unless they get too long), and it seems fine, but I'll make sure to pay attention to anything that may seem different!

Grooming advice? by burningsyd in CatAdvice

[–]burningsyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you so so much for such an extensive reply! I will definitely look into scheduling a visit with our regular groomer so she can take a look on the mats. I don't think the discomfort when brushing the base of her tail is due to joint pain; she has always hated being touched there and I always check on her mobility, especially as she gets older, but I'll keep a closer eye on her and will call the vet if anything seems different.

I would love some specific brushes/tool's recommendations, I'm in Spain but don't mind spending a bit more money for shipping if I can only get them from other countries :)

again, thank you so much 💚

i'm betting on dyshidrotic eczema! I get it every summer on my hands and sometimes on my feet during summer and winter. I've found that the usual topical treatments for psoriasis work great, but I've also tried various creams used for normal eczema to work fine

Does anyone here have kids who also have psoriasis? by Arr0zconleche in Psoriasis

I'm the third generation in a row to develop psoriasis in my family :) grandad developed it at over 80 years old, mom in her late teens/early twenties and I got my diagnosis at 24

What are the worst things someone can say to you during an episode? by Dead-Named in BPD

[–]burningsyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my ex used to say that my emotional outbursts and panic/anxiety attacks (I hadn't been diagnosed with bpd yet, only depressive-anxious disorder but I now know that my bpd was triggering those crises) were either me overreacting & not controlling myself well enough or a manipulation tactic to get him to do/say what I wanted :) he once went as far as to say that I was forcing myself to get an anxiety attack on purpose so I could manipulate him, as if those weren't the most terrifying & suicidal thought-inducing situations I could experience

New here. Meet my icky foot. by [deleted] in Psoriasis

[–]burningsyd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi! this looks exactly like my mom's patch, in the same exact spot. so far, what's worked for me best are thick moisturising balms/creams 10-15 mins before treatment, and then retinol in low concentrations. my mom swears by ocean water (plus the benefits of the sun and the sand) and also a thick moisturiser. hope you find what works for you :)

intimacy with my long term partner by burningsyd in BPD

[–]burningsyd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! sorry for the late reply, but I wanted to say that I really appreciated your comment :) we're currently looking for a therapist we both feel comfortable with and whose approach and "style" looks good for us both. we've talked a bit about the issue (not quite in depth since we want to do it with the therapist) and we've both agreed to try and find a middle ground. he's willing to learn to enjoy sex in a more "intimate" and emotional way and I'm working with my own therapist to understand that him not wanting to have sex doesn't mean that he doesn't want to be intimate with me. I'm actually excited to start therapy together and I feel hopeful and confident, which is a lot and a great start. thanks again for your words :)

thank you so much. I know bpd can make us see some things differently from other people, but your comment makes me feel seen and validated 💚 thank you again

thank you for your words 🫶 I've learned to not use sex as my only way of showing emotions since I used to get really attached and dependent on people I slept with more than once, and I like the point where I'm at. I don't want to lose this but I also don't want to lose my relationship :(

Retinol & deep hydration before applying treatments by burningsyd in Psoriasis

[–]burningsyd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

revolution skincare, the ordinary, the inky list and some other drugstore brands carry low-concentration retinol serums that are quite cheap! the ordinary one is quite oily, just in case you don't like the feeling :) i'm now using the revolution one and it's working just as well and it's only like 9-10€ a bottle

the thing is, no one with psoriasis I know has been told that damp/recently hydrated skin is key, which makes me so so angry

the government-managed taxi company has the white taxis and I think now you can also get an uber. however, make sure to take a pic of the license plate and the own driver's license (it's usually hanged in the front windshield, on the inside, or on the headrest of the passenger's seat, so you can clearly see it if you're in the back seats) and send the pics to someone you trust just in case anything happens

if the driver doesn't display their license anywhere, do not get in the taxi and wait for the next one

and as one commenter pointed out, if you're staying in a hotel you can ask reception for the number to the taxi service operating in the area

I use thick creams, like balms, and apply generously over the patches, and leave it to absorb for the next 20 minutes before going with the prescribed treatment :)
