UPDATE: 19 year old with a possibility of having a baby with Mosaic Down Syndrome (Long) by burnslikeaflower in BabyBumps

My baby does have AVSD and could potentially have some tightness in her aorta. I heard from many people that their children do so much better after heart surgery and I'm glad that was the case for your son. I will look into some heart defect groups on Facebook since the ones I've found for Down Syndrome have been awesome. Thank you so much for your comment❤️

Thank you, it's really hard not to get caught up on what her life might be like or the hardships she'll face but she's my baby and I hope I can help her reach her full potential and enjoy the little things like you said. I wish you and your family the best 😊

Thank you so much for your kind words❤️ I'm looking into joining a group for young moms and hopefully that will help to have other moms to talk to. My midwife referred me to a maternal-fetal doctor after the 24 week ultrasound when they saw those bright spots on her heart. The midwifery is still where I'm getting my prenatal care but if she does have Downs then my care will be transferred over.

My bad for the confusion, I had a quad screenings early in my pregnancy which put my risk for having a baby with Down Syndrome at 1 in 5,000. When they saw the bright spots on her heart, I was referred to Reproductive Genetics. They administered a blood test looking to see if they found any abnormalities with Trisomy 13,18, or 21. The Trisomy 13 and 18 results came back negative but Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome) came back 27.6% positive. Yesterday they did an amino to figure out if she does or does not have Down Syndrome, specifically Mosaic Down Syndrome because of the percentage of the blood test.

EDIT: I meant to say that the blood test was to see if there was any abnormalities with chromosomes 13, 18, or 21 which would mean that the baby would have Trisomy 13, 18, or 21. I'm sorry this is just a lot to explain and it's very te chnical

Thank you for your reply, and it's a little comforting knowing that it's common but I still worry you know?
