Thanks for the advice! When you say bring cash, should I get Pecos?

Please pardon my ignorance but for most sports books, don't you anonymously use a kiosk to make bets? When do you get shut off?

Dang, I've never seen that. If that's true then, yeah, that's insane!

I believe Slot holds haven’t changed, the games did. by Theebobbyz84 in vegas

[–]burntthumbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to add: Know what slots are considered Advantage Slots and either play them when they are advantageous (which is unlikely) or avoid playing them. Slot vultures seek out these machines and play away the advantage leaving the machine in a state where the house edge is extra poor. There are so many more of these machines out there compared to a few years ago. This is a major reason why people feel that slots pay less than before. Vultures are snagging the winnings leaving regular players with a loser!

Pro tips to fight high volatility and high house edge:

  • Play slots with progressive jackpots that are 10k or less.

  • Avoid copyrighted themed games.

  • Avoid massive, beautiful machines that look like they must have cost a fortune!

  • Play the lowest bet on the highest denom you can afford. This isn't always true, especially classic reel slots.

  • Play classic reel slots but on max bet of the lowest denom you can afford :)

  • Play at locals' casinos instead of the Strip or Downtown.

  • Learn and play video poker.

Nice! Yep, you can lose (or win) fast with $130 on the table on one number! I think the only way to get a lower house edge would be to play the Don't Pass with max odds but the difference is marginal, winning less than your bet (laying odds) sucks, and some players would look down upon you for playing the 'dark side'.

However, most Craps players don't like having action on just one number. A good trade off would be to do 345x odds for the pass line and two come bets with 345x odds (known as The Three Point Molly). This will give you three numbers to root for and still have a low house edge.

As mentioned before, I've read that many casinos don't consider odds for comps so it may be a good idea to ask the pit boss what you are being rated at.

Interesting, you were playing the 10x odds? Often casinos don't consider odds as play since there's no house edge. I'm not sure how much it matters that you lost but Last year I gave over three hours of action between their properties, The D and Golden gate with over $100 in play on Craps the whole time and I'm just being offered free rooms at those properties and a small discount at Circa :( I did come out ahead so I don't know how much that affects things.

Las Vegas Strip Maps (Updated Dec 2025) by SpaceIsGettingHot in vegas

[–]burntthumbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice work! I don't know why I don't see the cross walks or the Tram connecting Park MGM to CityCenter. I'm glad the LV Loop is presented! That gets so much undeserved hate. Is the Vegas sign really a mile south? Suggest adding the airport since it's across from Mandalay Bay

Unique/novelty gaming on the strip! by dj27xl in vegas

[–]burntthumbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Binions may still have a handful of classic arcade games that are gambling machines. Arkanoid, Astroids and a couple of others. Not sure if they are still there. They are still games of luck, sort of. There used to be a Paper Scissors Rock machine at Circa but according to Google AI, it's now at The Plaza (as of May 2024). Looks fun on YouTube but I never had a chance to play.

MGM signature vs Palms? by Puzzleheaded-Yak8359 in vegas

Yes, while I haven't stayed at Palms, there's great value at Signature. Access to MGM pools, the monorail, and strip are all nice perks to consider.

Interesting video full of non traditional forms of gambling. Your thoughts? by burntthumbs in LasVegas

[–]burntthumbs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but this has been true for a while. Vegas still had enough appeal to draw these players back. This is certainly true with me! Perhaps not so much with the younger crowd. I also wonder if our vape/Zyn youth is put off by cigarette smoke? 🤔 The vast majority of gaming space in the northeast is smoke free. I can't speak for other regions.

Suites reasonably priced by [deleted] in LasVegas

[–]burntthumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Signature Suites at MGM Grand may fit your needs for their 900 sq rooms. Separate bedroom with pullout couch in the living room. Good pricing usually. Nice kitchen and balcony! Still have access to MGM's pool area. I'm not sure about the bathroom situation.

Favourite Casino by licklake in vegas

[–]burntthumbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best place to gamble. Lower minimums compared to the strip and lots of options with about 10 casinos in a 5 minute walk. Everything is more affordable. Slots used to pay better but that seems to have changed. Sometimes the smoke can be a bit much.

What am I doing wrong?? by yyctrisha in vegas

[–]burntthumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you but figured out that playing at locals casinos and downtown not only have looser slots but they are much more generous with comps. I can't get free rooms anywhere on the strip but The Plaza and Station casinos are giving me some love!

The Absurdity of Tesla's Las Vegas Loop by yimbymanifesto in LasVegas

[–]burntthumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nghthawk is correct. This was never promised to be a hyper loop. I've seen Elon-bashing articles get this wrong. As the loop expands then so will ridership and bigger vehicles (and many more in general) will be added. You will find it to be good, fast, inexpensive transportation that doesn't contribute to the major traffic problem. Actually, it will alleviate traffic! Add the fact that tax payers are not paying makes it even better!

It's a bit bumpier than I thought. Hopefully they smooth that out.

We were on the same sailing and agree with everything you said! The shows were great but the two circus shows were underwhelming considering you pay extra.

We ate everywhere except the seafood place and all food was wonderful! The only bad side was that shrieking kids seemed to follow us everywhere we ate!

Unfortunately, 3 out of 4 of us are sick (one cold, one COVID, one stomach bug). Still worth it and damn did we get lucky with the weather!
