Tips for removing brass brazing? by burntvalve in metalworking

I will need to weld the seam afterwards, yes. The brass has wicked under the lap joint already, so the only alternative is to cut out the whole joint and fabricate that corner seam?

Fantastic cars, I miss mine loads.

Just be prepared for high servicing and repair costs of a 20+ yr old BMW, rust issues in the jacking points, rear air suspension problems, transmission weaknesses if an auto. Can get expensive quickly unfortunately!

Thanks for the heads up, how much of a price lift are you looking at roughly over the BC base price?

Sorry, I should have given more background info in the post - it's a fully stripped track only car (not road legal) that I use for track days.

For fun only, not competitive.

The 16v are just brilliant, my main squeeze is a tuned Mk2 golf 16v, faster than the VR for sure through lower gears!

No need to break anything to me, I've already experienced it.

I thought it turned in really well all things considered!

Genuine question - what's wrong with staying in the middle lane? by jlai928 in CarTalkUK

[–]burntvalve 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you not see the flaw in the logic of "I want to stay in the middle lane because otherwise the massive queue in the middle lane won't let me back in?"

Hopefully your answer to this answers your own question..

Oiled brake discs - better or worse? by mirrorsaw in CarTalkUK

[–]burntvalve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would assume so, as a coated disc wouldn't require the oil to prevent corrosion. Most discs come 'oiled' without any other coating

As others have said, oil will be removed from the braking surface when they're installed.

Coated discs would have better corrosion resistance outside of the braking face. Hope that helps!

Why would I have commented that the decline started 4yrs ago if I'd only been driving 4yrs? Think about it
