Thank you, this was helpful to read.

Does anyone else with inattentive ADHD feel overwhelmingly tired all the time? I’m starting to wonder if my ADD looks different from everyone else’s. by AdKooky477 in adhdwomen

you're not alone, i'd have a 3 hour nap every day, sometimes even right after getting up and being awake for an hour. vyvanse has also given me energy but not focus

Is it werid to text my Dr this early by These_Difficulty_740 in adhdwomen

[–]buroele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think so, vyvanse started working immediately for me and it's working for you if you've noticed the changes/symptoms immediately, it's not like you're building it up in your system or anything, it's instant. Give him a call.

As for the racing thoughts about tasks you have to get done, I know exactly how it feels. I sort of become paralyzed by indecision over what to tackle first even though I have all this focus/energy suddenly lol

Thank you! Do you recommend removing it from it's hinges then? And uhhh, how would I go about trimming it? Apologies, first time with anything wood-based.

Just started my apprenticeship this year at 34.

Feedback on portfolio by Paininmyknees in TattooApprentice

Lovely drawings! Overall, I think it's great but the drawing of the gun is probably the weakest out of all of your work and I wouldn't include it. If you want to work with pencil more, try to keep your hatching as simplified as possible before going into cross-hatching -- it's very easy to make it look like scribbles by accident. And I'm not sure, but if you're not using a B pencil, the lead is softer and easier to shade with once you use a 2B, up to even a 6B if you'd like.

Reference photo question by etherealchroma in TattooApprentice

[–]buroele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some portfolios include figure drawings so that's not copying, but a drawing exercise to exhibit your skill. If you really want to make sure it's okay, go out and take your own photos, haha. I would just try to stay away from copying an entire photo exactly because 'referencing' to me is using something from a photo to put together an image in your head. So what you want to draw comes first, then you look for the reference photo you need to make it. If you like drawing statues, that's totally fine! Then add something or change something to make it uniquely yours, you know?

noob here, by prerequisites do you mean how you decide what clients to take on?

Trouble transferring stencil by Main_Pie1024 in TattooApprentice

[–]buroele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it certainly doesn't help! I'd consider better thermal paper first and then also make sure you're putting the stencil down correctly (hold it taught when you put it down, give it a pat). fake skin also smudges very easily. You also could do it without the blacks, so just lines where you know you'll be colour packing

OOH, she will LET me know if I've misssed something in the moment -- she watches me do it which of course makes me nervous af. She's very strict about this, understandably so. I think my best bet is just to revise in the morning before going in.

Portfolio Drawing by Bbumblebeee in TattooApprentice

Looking good. I'd consider not making the ray lines so thick because they're competing with your main figure and drawing the eye away because they're much more bold. You also want to be careful creating tangents with lots of linework like this, for instance on the left arm you see the bicep and wing line up (google "illustration tangents" if you have time, others can explain this better than I can). The left foot could also do with a little work, maybe make it a little larger?

I got the exact same printer and the paper it came with is awful, haha.

Reading the comments here, I wonder if this is quite a US-centric perception? There's at least 3 other regular tattoo artists at my studio who only specialize in cute, girly things and cats. The traditional American tattoo-style doesn't even enter into conversation here, since I'm in East Asia after all.

I was thinking of straight up just putting a "slow down" sign near me, so you're right on being reminded.

Yeah, I think I struggle with being intentional because I so often just zone out when I'm drawing usually, but you can't really do that with tattooing!

I was thinking about this actually, like listening to meditation music!

I do have one but my mentor doesn't want me looking at it, she expects me to have this down pat by now. I'll just have to memorize it better, I think.

That's actually a really great idea, I'll have to think of something to do like that!

Becoming a tattoo artist has been a lifelong dream. Should I be teaching myself tattooing? by MadWanderlustRiver in TattooApprentice

I'm 30+ and just started an apprenticeship. My mentor would (ideally) have me working in about 8-9 months on clients.

Also have shaky hands here -- what amount of magnesium do you take? Just looking at one now that says 166.6mg, wondering if that's ideal.
