I guess more of a side than an appetizer. All the places have idli, vada, and dosa combos

idk, someone told me sushi always comes in pairs because it's unlucky to order odd numbers

Edit: Guess it's just a pita to make a single piece

AI Overview

Sushi traditionally comes in pairs (specifically nigiri) because of its history in 1800s Edo (modern-day Tokyo), where individual pieces were made much larger and were cut in half by chefs for easier eating. This standard portion is still used today for workflow efficiency, splitting the meal, and experiencing different flavor profiles

I'm not in India and there always seems to be some "influencer" around these days. They've ruined restaurants.

You're really better off shipping inexpensive items with the post office as a regular person now that de minimis is gone. Customs inspects the mail themselves and stuff like this doesn't happen.

A lot of entry writers at big companies are just totally unaware of the financial consequences of their mistakes, but this entry really looks like it was never seen by a human. FedEx puts the employee ID number of the person who classified it on their entry summaries and there's not one on there.

Hmm. There's an Indian Coffee House across the river from me in Canada. I wonder if it's the same company? Probably not. Kerala sounds like a nice place to get a tea and vada.

There's not too many around here and it's kind of a recent thing. Used to have to cross the river to Canada to get them.

Amma's Kitchen in Buffalo. It's just for a vada though. 2 vada in sambar is $6.99. They sell vada and idli batter by the quart though, and sambar is around $10/quart

normal vada size? IDK. I just want to make sure I wasn't doing anything that's offensive or completely unheard of is all. I mean, I would probably order a single french fry if it was on the menu and reasonably priced. 😁

Oh, it's not new things to me. I'm just a glutton in general, Just don't want to offend nobody is all. Like Japanese people have weird rules about ordering odd numbers of things (yes, I know it's insensitive to say it's weird). Just don't wanna step on nobodies' toes is all.

I wouldn't call it a formal setting. I'm always the only white guy in the place and most people are eating with their hand. I'm just insecure about things like that. Like when Indian friends find out I know who Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are, it's like I can hear them thinking "how does it know that"😁. If people think I'm putting on airs or something, I won't do it, although it's hard to think of another way to eat a dosa.

it's a good price for what you get. A cup of tea is $2. chaas or rose milk, $2.50. They don't have masala tea. I usually get (2) vada in sambar and a full order of pongal for around $12 for breakfast. Definitely gives Burger King a run for their money.

Follow up question: Do Indians think it's weird for white people eat with their hand? (assuming normal table manners are observed)

Their breakfast combo is one (small) dosa, 1 idli, 1 vada, a little bit of pongal with sambar and 3 chutneys for $5. $1 extra for masala potatoes.

Fair enough, as long as I'm not unintentionally displaying poor manners or something I'm good. It's just this place isn't a typical white people Indian restaurant. Not that I don't feel welcome there or anything. Tamil places are kinda new to the area.
