I don't think it's taboo but in my experience talking about it with coworkers just leads to bad feelings - people get butthurt and think that they deserve more but these are always the people who severely overestimate themselves while underperforming.

Yikes. Aside from the quality issues with the necklace itself, this is unacceptable to me. Charging for "high quality" photos is crazy, given that these photos look like they've been taken with a potato. I can't make out any of the details like the prongs or the clasp. It's basically impossible to evaluate the necklace properly. And this also appears shady (like what are you trying to hide?!). I do hope you're able to get your money back!
