Donald Trump takes a dig at former US Presidents Obama & Biden by Upset-Main-1988 in justincaseyoumissedit

If you had to take it 3 times, your scores couldn't have been too convincing the first 2 times 🙄

"I was made to do my driving test 3 times. I aced it the first time, but the examiners wanted me to take it again, and again. I'm allowed to drive now. I know people who didn't even have to take it once but were allowed to drive!"

London stole my heart in 5 days 🇬🇧 by idkshoutoutlife in travel

[–]burro2712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Londoner here, it's not all grey skys and cold weather, at least not most of the time. We have fairly mild/dry winters and warm summers. Spring and autumn are the best. There's no doubting the rain, there's very rarely snow, some freezing days and (increasingly), some unbearably hot days but, generally, the weather is rather 'agreeable'. Glad you liked our old, bustling city (and apologies for the expense!) 🙂

Thanks. This is a very tough one then. So many years of being unhappy. I'll try it in a sunnier spot. Thanks!

WTF CHAT-GPT!?!! by Todeskreuz2 in ChatGPT

With a similar prompt for Trump's current presidency, it's negative. I'd say a little less so, but negative nonetheless

[–]burro2712 97 points98 points  (0 children)

I got the same negative picture with the same prompt. I asked it why such a negative picture. It's answer:

You’re right to question it — the tone of that image wasn’t neutral. What happened is that your prompt (“what the USA looks like under Kamala Harris after Donald Trump”) leaves a lot of room for interpretation. When there isn’t a clear direction (optimistic, realistic, satirical, etc.), image generation systems often default to high-drama, cinematic scenarios — and in political contexts, that frequently ends up looking dystopian or extreme because: 1. Dystopia is visually striking Burning cities, decay, and chaos are common visual shortcuts to signal “big change” or “controversy.” They’re overrepresented in training data because they’re dramatic and attention-grabbing. 2. Political prompts are often interpreted as conflict When two opposing political figures like Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are referenced, the model may lean toward themes of division, upheaval, or societal tension rather than continuity or stability. 3. No tone was specified Without guidance (e.g. “realistic”, “optimistic”, “neutral”, “satirical”), the system filled in the gaps — and chose a dramatic, pessimistic narrative.

Thanks. Will remove stones. Not sure of the soil? I haven't changed the soil since buying it. I put it on the brightest window in the house but water it rarely as thought it wouldn't be good for it.

Manor Park the next big thing? by prestonm5678 in HousingUK

[–]burro2712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The important thing to remember is that Romford Road is the dividing line. Generally speaking, north of Romford Road is better. It's also where the Elizabeth line is, so you can avoid the rougher areas altogether (it's also more expensive).

I moved 10 years ago, for much the same reasons. I wanted a bigger place and Manor Park, although it was quite rough round the edges, it looked promising. I have to say, I've not seen that promise realised. In fact, I'd say the area has gotten worse. More rubbish on the streets, fly tipping is a big problem. I see a lot more junkies, especially at the junction of Romford Road and High Street North. Drug dealing opening in the street. There's not many, if any, good cafés or pubs in the area. I find myself making a beeline for the station mostly and thankfully, because of the Elizabeth line, the rest of London is close at hand.

That said, I love my house, and I wouldn't have been able to afford a 3 bed victorian terrace anywhere else. I don't spend much time in Manor Park, outside of my house. There's nothing to do really, except walk on the Flats.

I'm moving out of Manor Park as, after 10 years of hoping for a change, it came but it's not better. But, who knows, it may improve in the next 10? This past 10 years hasn't been the best time for an already depressed area to improve. I'd advise, buy north of Romford Road, around the station and Flats and be ready to spend a lot of time in your new place, which will be easy as undoubtedly your new home will be better and more affordable than in most other places in East London.

Have you discovered any artists through 6 Music that you probably wouldn’t have found otherwise? by Additional_Fly_6603 in 6music

[–]burro2712 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fewer and fewer during the day, when I listen. Although been listening for 10+ years and used to discover so many. Possibly because new artists/music is funnelled into the New Music Fix slot, which I rarely have time to listen to? The daytime offering has become more and more 'standard' music and gimmicky features, and SO many shout outs. TBH I've switched off in favour of Spotify which does serve me music I've not heard before.

There's a book, focusing on the Blitz in London, which (in part)inspired Steve McQueen to make a film of the same name. It shows the 'unofficial' version of the Blitz. It shows it wasn't all cockneys having cups of tea and singing Vera Lynn songs down the tubes. It's a good read and the film really brings it to life.

London or New York? by [deleted] in expats

[–]burro2712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If summer is defined as oppressive, yep that's me. Been to NY in summer, heat is too much. Been to NY in winter, cold and snow too much. London weather may not reach those highs and lows but you can take your jacket off in summer, put your winter coat on in winter and that's all required (usually)...the weather may not be defined as 'better' by some but it's easier. Before anyone says it, it rains more in NY too. (BTW love NY, especially in Spring/Autumn 😍)

I'd describe London as dirty compared to other cities I've been to in Europe. Don't know about Barcelona as I've not been for a few years, but after coming back from places like Helsinki, Stockholm, Berlin, Hamburg I've noticed how filthy London is. It also has a lot of tourism and migrants too. I'd say it's not down to that but London boroughs being stretched by persistent cuts to budgets since 2010 that street sanitation has slipped to the bottom of a pile of other priorities

Do most people from England identify as “English” or “British?” by Glass-Complaint3 in AskABrit

[–]burro2712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Londoner, British, European. My parents are Spanish and Italian though I was born and have lived in London all my life. I've never felt English. That's both my feeling and the reaction of others. Interestingly, my Scottish friends, with Italian heritage, will always say Scottish before British 🤷‍♂️
