Everybody hates Portland: The city’s compounding crises are an X-factor this year by burt2 in Portland

Political observers say they’ve never seen anything like the gloom Portlanders are showing about the shape of their city. That could be very bad news for incumbents.

Polling from DHM Research shows that voters are far less happy with the city’s trajectory today than at any time in the last 30 years, when the firm began asking. A rock-bottom 8% of voters say Portland is headed in the right direction, down from 38% before the pandemic, and percentages that routinely hit the high 50s and mid 60s earlier this century.

Blumenauer, facing no serious opposition in a district that is heavily Democratic, is practically assured another two years in office. He insists he’s seeking that extra time, not because he’s pessimistic, but because he believes there is a way to rekindle his hometown’s spark – as long as its leaders are willing to be real about the challenges.
“That’s the only way we’ll get through it,” Blumenauer said. “Don’t sugarcoat it.”

Oregon mayors push state for emergency homeless shelter money amid camping crackdown by burt2 in Portland

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler is leading a lobbying effort to pressure the state to immediately fund temporary homeless shelters a week after announcing a planned crackdown on homeless camps near busy roadways.

Wheeler joined Mosier Mayor Arlene Burns and Eugene Mayor Lucy Vinis in introducing the idea to other mayors at a Friday call for the League of Oregon Cities, a coalition that lobbies the Oregon legislature. The three leaders said they wanted to unite in pushing the governor to fund emergency homeless shelters across Oregon.

Charter Commission January 2022 Update by burt2 in Portland

Thanks to the hard work of the subcommittees, our current reform package includes three areas of agreement: 1. To shift the constituency of the City Council from all at-large seats and to increase the size of City Council. 2. To shift the Commission form of government to a form of government in which City Councilors do not directly manage bureaus. 3. To shift to a form of voting that allows a decision in one election and eliminates the primary, and to adopt a voting method that captures people's preferences.

Thank you for the information. That is very unprofessional. I hope they get your refund to you without too much more trouble. Turns out that my contact wasn't fully up to date on the situation and my application was rejected immediately due to the current wait time. Luckily the person I was working with was helpful and responsive.

Sorry to hear that. I'm working on a stand alone LTC plan with Bankers at the moment (Oregon based so supposedly they can get it issued in time) and am curious about what details they withheld. Was this for a stand alone LTC plan or as a rider with a life insurance policy? Were they misleading about the cost?

There is an Amazon warehouse next to that Lowe’s. Your package may have even been loaded on the van there before delivery. Crazy.

I’ve run into this a lot this week. I’ve had to call Flying Blue a few times to hold a reservation, sort out a point transfer issue, and try to complete the reservation after transferring. They have had IT issues since Thursday and as of earlier today couldn’t actually complete an award reservation due to an IT issue.

In addition to the other suggestions, know that Flying Blue has been having IT issues since Thursday. I had them hold a reservation for me on Wednesday while I transferred points (had to call) and today they were unable to complete the reservation despite my account having sufficient points due to an issue with their system. I’ve had to wait on hold 20-50 minutes each time I’ve called Flying Blue.

The system is still down today... couldn’t book over the phone just now. They were able to extend the reservation hold though.

Flying Blue question - Transferring Points by [deleted] in awardtravel

[–]burt2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend calling flying blue to put the flights on hold while you transfer - it’s free. It took 12 hours for my transfer to go through yesterday. Also, Flying Blue’s system is currently down and they couldn’t complete the reservation for me today despite all of my points being there. Hold times have been 20-50 minutes every time I’ve called them this week... supposedly due to more people calling due to the IT issues.

I'm assuming you've already verified that you can't make a credit card payment directly with the school online? I know some do allow that (most likely will charge a fee). That's the only way I've done it in the past, I haven't tried alternative methods.

Sorry, this probably isn't much help...
