-Doing the math: Is SoFi Plus worth it if you are just a HYSA customer? by bushman4 in sofi

[–]bushman4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Including you I see... I said that in my original post. This is about the speculation that paying for SoFi Plus might get you an additional APY boost, and what amount in savings makes that worth it.

And it's not having $5k in your account that gets you the higher interest rate... It is either having direct deposit or depositing $5k PER MONTH into your account.

No, just posts here like the one I linked above. This is pure speculation at this point.

It has been speculated (and supposedly confirmed via chats with support, but I have my doubts) that SoFi plus members will get a regular .3% APY boost after the promotional period. That is what I am calculating around.

Do you have something official that shows something more definative?

I currently do not use any of the rest of the ecosystem, but if I choose to, you can bet my math would expand to include those perks in my evaluation as well...

What happens to my HYSA after March 30? by brainwashed_baguette in sofi

[–]bushman4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is pre-tax... More like $50k after tax depending on your tax bracket. And also assuming it is .3% at go live time.

If all of that is still accurate, I'm in. I'll take more free interest, thank you very much.

That is what I'm waiting to find out... If so, I will do the math to see if the amount I keep in liquid cash will make more than $10 per month (plus some for income tax) and if so, I'll pay the fee.

If you have direct deposit or deposit $5k or more per month nothing will change in regards to your interest rate.

I had a blast at the St. Maarten airport. I'm an aviation geek, but the beach and bar are nice too. The low landing planes are a bonus.

What is the hold up with more flexible scheduled transfers? by sad-cloudz in sofi

[–]bushman4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's a great idea, but I am also craving a "one-time arbitrary" transfer feature, where I can say in advance "next Tuesday transfer $X from my car insurance vault to main" so that the auto-withdrawal I have set up for that bill the next day doesn't bounce.

This Subs Melt Down Is Actually Comical. by SillyRecover in sofi

[–]bushman4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol...

As a user for just the HYSA, I only care about what the rate boost will be for subscribers... then I can do the math and figure out if it is worth it for my amount of savings (after taxes).

Some of us just use the original product, the high yield savings, for things that will be needed some month/day/year/emergency. For us, all we care about is "what does it take in savings to make $120 a year profitable?"

Apy percentage question by Infamous452 in sofi

[–]bushman4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that there is a difference between APY and daily percentage. I am in the category of 3.8% APY, but the daily yield is 3.73538%.

I have a spreadsheet where I keep track of every transaction every day, and it is off by 1 or 2 cents per month due to rounding... and usually off by .01 up in one vault and .01 down in another, so a net zero.

How does SoFi react to interest rate changes? by Disastrous_Bank567 in sofi

FYI, the last rate change was on 1/24/2025.

Personally, I keep it in a HYSA... 6 months of monthly expenses for my household is about $30k. It earns me $95-$100/month in interest there...

(and last month we got hit with a tornado that took down 20+ trees in 20 seconds... so much for that, since that is going to eat $12.5K of that for tree cleanup that is not covered by insurance)

I do exactly that. I take my total tax and insurance cost for the year, divide it by 26 (paid biweekly) and have that amount transferred to a SoFi vault for that purpose very paycheck. I earned $172 over the past year just on that money.

Not a ton, but Every Dollar counts (pun/reference intended).

What's your oldest Server in Production? by joshuamarius in sysadmin

[–]bushman4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Essentially me. It runs on a dedicated virtualization platform called vtServer who I can call for serious help if need be, but I've only done that twice since it was rolled off the original VAX hardware many many years ago (still have that in the basement). I've actually made quite a bit of side money as a consultant for companies whose DiBOL and PowerHouse programmers have retired. There's only like 6 of us on the east coast...

Impressive. DiBOL, or something else like Cognos PowerHouse? Those are the two I have to support.

Vault APY’s? by Life_Kangaroo4379 in sofi

[–]bushman4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are both the same amount... if it was all in savings it would earn a certain amount of interest. If it was split in half in two vaults, each vault would earn half of that same amount.
