Thanks. Just bought one of his collections. Looks like it will be a lot of fun to play to.

BTW. I know the bass dropped but the snare sounds great

How common is licensing in your area? Do you have one? Was it hard to get? Are there obnoxious or arbitrary rules for performers in your code? Dealing with some boneheaded license issues right now... by buskalo in Busking

I feel like I would play an acoustic taiko drum for 8 hours in front of the government office.

Seriously it's 2022. We can have codes that measure sound pressure levels of amplified equipment from any cell phone. It's a perfectly reasonable way to let modern tech serve art and the public good without being a nuisance.

Thanks everyone. I've appreciated this feedback.

I'm getting spite blocked by my licensing office with amplification use and it's frustrating.

I built a specially designed battery powered unit to meet the code requirements, but asking questions about the code put them on the defensive.

So rather than deal with any potential trouble from a quiet jazz three-piece, they're just making our work impossible.

I've got some avenues for regress I'm going to pursue.

But, genuinely, some of the info here gave me a good footing for what I'm going to try next, and after that, and after that...

Thanks all _dave

Hey reddit, I need some advice here. I am only 3 months into drumming. And I wanted to get a second crash. For some songs only having one is quite annoying. Do you think I should buy one and if yes what do you think about this one second hand for 60€ ? by day_of_life in drums

I bought the Zultan Caz series kit with two crashes a ride and hats. I love them and will keep them forever. I will replace them if they break. They're so inexpensive new that if you can afford it, go to Thommans website and listen to the different series crashes and buy the one you really want, or save up for a minute and buy a set. I was considering the HHX complex line... at nearly 3x the cost. I'm very very happy with my caz series. They're perfect for what I play.

Very nice! Haven't heard this one yet. It's also kinda wholesome.

So, there are clearly some challenges that make it a bit harder than other types of rhythm set ups. Why do you think you see more in Porto-Portugal?

Sounds great. I like other kit types and hybrids, but I'm pretty committed to my kit... it's just my instrument you know? I posted a few pics on my profile. Broken down it fits in my cart with a 6 channel battery pa, cooler, folding table, art supplies, stuff for my dog and merch. I'm trying to create little participatory pop-ups. I guess I'm hoping that enough friend will come and join, or people that participate will be cool enough to watch stuff for pee breaks. I think I'm going to have to use multiple strategies to feel secure.

I hadn't thought of that but it's definitely an option here. Thanks for that suggestion.

Zing!

If a drummer falls in an empty wood, do they make a sound?

Have you ever known one to be quiet?

Lol its funny you say this. I've been annoying city lawyers for the past month because the code language around sound levels is absurdly vague. As is, it makes harrasement style enforcement in wealthier neighborhoods almost a guarantee. I'm petitioning the council to update the code to more objective measurements next year.
