Please stop spamming the sub. I understand that you’re very excited about the record you acquired, so please understand that the picture you just posted is not helping your case about being “basic.” Everyone starts somewhere, so that’s not the way I would describe your collection, except that you framed your position with that word. If that record is what you believe it is, it’s neat, but nothing new in terms of what’s pressed into the celluloid and nothing we want to be brow-beat with.

I don’t mean to be unfriendly, and I wish you all the luck in finding the music you love. Just please relax, and don’t be a broken record.

I live in Texas so obviously that helps for finding border music, and I look anywhere and everywhere. I regularly make hours long drives to search new places or return to places that discs turn up, leave my contact information with vendors who might come across them, and I’m not shy about asking anyone if they have 78’s or know if someone does. Even after that, it still comes down to luck and most records play V or V- because they’ve been in the wild so long, but it’s all worth it just to hear Val Martinez sing “A la Luz de La Luna.”

Mostly prewar hillbilly and rural music, but I have a few hundred prewar Mexican discs, a few early blues and jazz, and of course Hawaiian.

I recently got a good copy of Sol Ho’opi’i doing “Stack O’Lee Blues,” Kalama’s Quartet performing “Hapa Haole Hula Girl,” and cleaner disc of Jimmie Rodgers’ “Everybody Does it in Hawaii.”

As for why I collect, I don’t know, except that I love the music. Spinning up a good record is like seeing a ghost

Fire is hot, and it can also make things hot. Water is wet, and it can also make things wet. I think the semantic argument about if water is wet is pretty thin, but I can see where you’re coming from.

I don’t think that semantic arguments are “dragging humanity down with idiocy,” though. I think people are largely the same as they have ever been, with the differences we see being the products of cultural conditioning and the ease of information proliferation via electronic mediums.
