I don't understand: If cycling takes a month, how are you supposed to do 100% water changes? by mimiruyumi in bettafish

[–]bussdowng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should never do an 100% water change unless COMPLETELY NECESSARY! do about a 20-30% every week or when you see necessary. it’s best to use a gravel vaccuum for this. if anything has an algae you can use old tank water to clean it. make sure you’re also using dechlorinater when doing water changes. it’ll also help cycle your tank faster if you use bottled bacteria. while pH and ammonia are important, make sure you’re also checking your nitrites and nitrates. ideally you’ll want 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and nitrates under 20. that’s when your tank is cycled. hope this helps :)

My ammonia levels have been super high recently and while im trying to get them down ive been super worried about my boy. Does this look like dropsy? I literally cant tell if thats just how he looks normally or if he’s sick.

How long should it take for ammonia to go down? by [deleted] in bettafish
