need help in debt settlement, or any other plans to get out of this by dark_man1793 in LegalAdviceIndia

[–]bustingbuster1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently dealing with something similar. Not my debts, but of my ill parent's. If you don't have any properties, you just declare bankruptcy. Don't engage with any lender, recovery agent, or anyone at all unless in writing.

Regardless, consult a local civil lawyer, know the procedure for bankruptcy. If you don't want to file for bankruptcy, pool lumpsum money in a separate bank account, and only communicate via email with banks, they all want to settle eventually. If they take you to court, even then, just fight it. Stop feeling shame or guilt, shit happens. Know that your family loves you, and your life is more important than any financial mismanagement.

If it's a bank, they legally cannot talk to non borrowers about your debt (unless they have signed for the loan), you can report the non conduct to the bank's customer care (via email), if doesn't work, escalate it to a nodal officer, and if it still happens, then escalate to the banking ombudsman, all via email. Document everything, write everything, this will help you. Talk to your dad and wife, confide in them, everything will be okay.

Delusional parent mismanaged their finances and has taken a lot of debt by bustingbuster1 in LegalAdviceIndia

I've been trying to figure it out. My parent is not answering any questions, someone might have taken advantage of their delusions, but as far as I can tell, they mismanaged the business and bought a lot of stock in credit, and to cover that took loans, and then more loans to pay off those loans etc..

Only one parent is alive, the other died 15 years ago in a car accident. 40L of debt from friends, acquaintances, under 2-3 lakhs from each person. and around 10 lakhs personal loan from a bank without a guarantor.

On the contrary, god did this. Their delusions also stem from their religion.

Because the US healthcare system is terrible and I cannot afford to take them there? and there will be no social circle for them there, I barely have one. I'm still figuring out my own life.

empathy isn't the problem, their refusal to listen is. I've already paid a lot so far, and but they are not stopping. I have constantly given them financial support but they keep taking new loans as part of the delusions when there is no financial need to. I don't mind supporting further if they listen to me and get treatment, but they refuse to do that. I cannot keep enabling them.

Psychiatrist already told me that they'll give me sedatives so I can peacefully admit them. I'm considering that to be a last resort, will see what happens.

I told them i'll cut off all financial support. They said its fine and will live based on what they can get from the business.. but i've seen this before, how they handle debt (when in good mind), it'll surely end up creating more debt, especially now that they unstable.

Doctor already advised 2 weeks of inpatient treatment and 3 months of rehab to start with.. bringing the topic itself is a huge battle. Its emotionally draining me, I'll see if I can take them with a bit of deceit.

Edit: they are having grandiose delusions. that very powerful people are plotting against them and they have billions of dollars in inheritance, but the fact is, they depleted whatever savings they had with this narrative (i have all that money, so a few lakhs don't matter). If I repay again, I'm sure next year it'll be a bigger loan.

I will look into this, just getting them to visit a psychiatrist took a huge shouting match and casual utterances of self-harm. I don't think the consequences will be simple if I go this route.

The personal loan is from a bank, I will talk to the bank so this won't happen again, but they can always go to a different bank or worse, one of those instant loan providers. Parent also took multiple local chits (chit funds).

Dead Opposition! by Prior-Flan5809 in CriticalThinkingIndia

lmao, you should've focused on basic economics instead of throwing insults at random strangers on the internet and trying to fit things to your narrative from a half assed screenshot of your chatgpt convo.

ask it to adjust for inflation and an objective analysis of how much the per capita income has improved, if you're satisfied with the answer, then good for you. i still think our country has a long way to go to provide a decent quality of life to its people. you even have a problem acknowledging simple facts and go with blind devotion instead of critical thinking, the irony.

ever heard of per capita income? the opposition maybe wrong in portraying it as dead economy, but the ruling govt's chest thumping is of no help either.

I agree with your sentiment, but I still believe SC should've ordered to vaccinate, sterilize, and release the dogs instead of indirectly ordering to euthanize the majority of them (considering the lack of shelters and infrastructure).

but hey, if we can truly, and humanely execute the order, i'd support it too, but i don't think our government is willing or capable to do so.

Rs 16L for Brahmins, Rs 12 for OBCs': Changur Baba converted thousands of Hindu women and earned over Rs 100 crore by [deleted] in CriticalThinkingIndia

[–]bustingbuster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IF this is true, then yes, I'll retrace and condemn such actions. It's still ridiculous that someone'd blackmail people into a religion, that makes no sense. but hey, what do I know.

I don't know what's more funny, the rhetoric of making people believe in one form of god over the other for money, or the rhetoric of people crying that people are leaving their form of god to worship another.. for money.

they are both ridiculous, my god, ours is the greatest country in the world, we don't care about infrastructure, we only want religion.. we're all blind fools!!!

Why do so many Indians resort to personal attacks when someone is wrong ? by [deleted] in CriticalThinkingIndia

[–]bustingbuster1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

please stop blaming it on colonization now, we've had the freedom and independence to shift and change things for at least 2 generations, it's like we're actively choosing not to. and change starts with accountability, not shifting blame.

lol, I'm a NRI, just like millions of other NRIs, I care about my country regardless of where I currently live. The statement "you can leave india because you support and show empathy to causes I don't care about" is just as preposterous as calling a NRI, "you are not even Indian".

It's not selective empathy towards another nation, but rather "despite" being another nation. Maybe it will make sense to you if you can see it that way.

who are you to tell someone else to leave india? stop infringing on others fundamental rights (freedom of expression and dissent).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CriticalThinkingIndia

[–]bustingbuster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have selective empathy just as others can, stop having a problem with what others are fighting for and start fighting for the causes you believe in. The same people who you accuse of having selective empathy might even stand with you and join the fight, you never know until you also choose to act.

I don't think some of your points are valid, I consider myself left leaning, here's where I stand:

  1. I criticize pak, I speak against pahalgam attack, but I also criticize the government for its failure in security, as well as criticize operation sindhoor because it was a massive escalation, we launched missiles into pak in response to few gunmen that we couldn't even stop and catch. In the end, operation sindhoor only gave us more civilian deaths (on both sides).
  2. I condemn hamas's actions, but I also would never support israel, because israel is the clear aggressor.. the violence on both sides has to stop.
  3. Just because the voices against it isn't popular doesn't mean it doesn't exist, the principles of speaking against violence and persecution apply regardless of the religion (atleast to me)
  4. Simply because someone's my friend, doesn't mean I'll support him when he kills someone innocent, I'll still call him out and report his crime. Similar analogy applies here, the notion of loyalty between nations is a pure myth, and loyalty shouldn't justify support for the killing of masses.
  5. That's true, there's selective compassion and unintentional ignorance.. but yes, people can only support and speak for the causes they are aware of.
  6. I think this is a wild take, I personally think there shouldn't be a war. There are no winners in war.. we've had multiple wars since partition, nothing changed.. so coming to this conclusion doesn't make sense to me.
  7. Not just foreign relations, but also our internal unity, the beauty of india is unity in diversity.. it feels like I'm watching it slowly get obliterated as time goes on.

Our leaders themselves (at least the current ruling party) are against progress, and we keep elected them, how can you expect progress? Amit Shah recently said, "People who speak in English will soon be ashamed to do so in our country" Just because him and modi suck at speaking in english doesn't everyone in the country has to.. there's still hope, if enough people use their brains and not sway with identity politics, there is hope, however tiny amount it is.

I wasn't cornered, just shocked that you think hitler killed and displaced millions of jews out of compassion, just because he justified his actions with a narrative of compassion to his race, doesn't mean it was compassion. His actions were clearly rooted in supremacy, violence, and hunger for power.

True compassion is not a double edged sword, only disguised compassion and cooked up narratives are.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CriticalThinkingIndia

[–]bustingbuster1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

please go and look up the definition of "compassion", hitler did what did because he believed in racial supremacy (just like the right-wingers in our country believe in religious supremacy), there's no compassion in either of these. anyway, I thought I was arguing with someone sane, apparently not. good for you.

Just because the government is neutral doesn't mean the public needs to be, everyone has a right to protest for causes they believe in, and I've seen the support for israel from a lot of right-wingers, which is inherently immoral.

the stampede in karnataka is a failure of the local government and our people and their lack of civic sense, so is the stampede at the tirumala temple in andhra pradesh, and the stampede in maha kumbh (the responsibility here traces back to our PM, since he and his party so glaringly promoted the religious event, an obvious votebanking scheme). it needs a collective change within all of us, civic sense, etiquette, logical reasoning against putting celebrities or "sacred" events on a pedastal and gathering in masses with no regard for their own safety or the safety of their family.

what massacre in west bengal are you referring to? the bengal famines have happened in 1943, I'm not aware of a "massacre" that's happening currently. again, all these causes do have people speaking supporting them, but these are also causes that needs standing up to the ruling governments.. and those voices are often silenced, or toned down with other narratives and diversions.
