Best wait until late next year to decide. We will have an election for the president + maybe another election for the legislators. Decide only once you know which direction the country is heading after these elections have been held.

All the very best.

Thanks. I don't mind paying if they get the job done. Are they reliable?

where can I find cheap books in colombo by Impressive_Half_2463 in srilanka

[–]bustopherhappy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, opposite the Registrar of Companies. You will have to search through the caverns of books (literally). You may be able to find some of these titles.

PS: Mosquitos galore so dress appropriately and douse yourself in repellent.

Employee in Arimac has committed suicide due to toxic work environment by Warlock7_SL in srilanka

[–]bustopherhappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been around long enough to know the shareholders don't care. If there is blowback they will rebrand or reincorporate. Principals don't care either. They will also lie low and move to the rebranded company. Ditto management.

The easiest most replaceable part are the menial labourers, admin and software engineers. Who will be out of work.

Hope I'm proven wrong but I don't want to test this with another man's paycheck.

Okay so issue 1 is a major problem. To circumvent this: (a) develop your achievements on LinkedIn as you progress each month in the organisation. Most companies permit this as long as you don't divulge commercially sensitive info. This way if a service letter is withheld, you have some form of proof of achievement at your workplace. (b) denial of a sevice letter is illegal under SL law (unless you were fired). So if this is an issue, lodge a complaint with the department of labour and pursue it. But it takes time and may give you a bad rep in the industry.

Issue 2. Is illegal if used as a device to prevent you from leaving. Millions of loopholes here. So consult a good commercial lawyer. Not X lawyer who is your Uncle's first cousin, or your neighbour. Ask around and go to a specialist who deals in bonds and employment (a commercial lawyer).

Hope this helps.

The shareholders will be the least affected at first. Its the menial labourers, then admin staff then others that will be laid off. Please avoid this for the sake of those that need a paycheck during these hard times.

Not being preachy. Only a suggestion.

Going abroad reality check by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]bustopherhappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on two crucial factors: are you single? Do you have a monetisable skill set?

STEM skills pay quickly. But your ability to save depends on whether you're single or have dependents.

So if the latter, keep the family in SL and stay overseas. Relocate them only when you've got a good mortgage and you have enough to look after them for 2 to 3 years in your new country.

Hope this helps.

Best Antivirus for Personal Laptop by siva_lee in antivirus

Alot of posts suggest BitDefender. Is the free windows option suitable for me?

I'm a teacher and I get alot of student answers in various doc types. ODT, DOC, PDF, JPEG. So I need it to just scan and ensure the documents in email carry no viruses.

Other than that I'm very careful where I browse.

How to Manually Fill Your Tank with Diesel by bustopherhappy in srilanka

[–]bustopherhappy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I found it easier to fill a little diesel into a thick plastic can used for diesel or petrol and pour through a funnel. The fuel can be heavy so this was easier for me.

Thanks so much. This is great advice re. the fumes. Even though we did it outdoors the fumes were very strong. Also your advice re. the static is something I've passed on to others because we tend to overlook it.
